New Monorail Fleet?

Post by Just Believe » Oct Mon 02, 2006 7:12 pm

I just came back from Disneyland this weekend (had a great time of course) and I found out the monorail is being closed until December. Now this could be only for the new Nemo ride BUT much discussion has come up about a new Mark VII. Has anyone heard any news or would like to comment.

Also, would this be enough time to install the new fleet if its happening? I would think so, three months is a long time for Disney Imagineers.
Do you think have enough time to go the bathroom before the next show?

We can't you old fool, WE'RE BOLTED TO THE SEATS!!!

I've heard this closure is due to heavy equip. as well as buildings getting within the train's envelope - in other words they are working too close to the beam and can't clear away every 5 minutes to let them thru so they just shut down till work on Nemo is done and the don't have to worry about crews and machines.

New fleet - sounds like they are preparing to slowly rebuild each train into a replica of the eariler monorails with their space age design. In theory once the train is done they do shakedown runs [at night I imagine] and then run it in regular service...

Right, G2, but the fleet will not be finished with Nemo from what I hear.

I'm hearing that too - word on the street says they will bring them in one at a time over the course of a year [no idea on how much of that is fact...]. So it might be a rather interesting time for a bit once they reopen the track - old and new monorails mixed...

Hmm, I thought the new fleet was coming out during the opening of Nemo. I guess things change.

I wonder if the heavy equipment is the subs itself?
Love Tomorrowland and Adventureland, but hard to decide to which one is best.

I've really gotta learn to draw like that. Pictures with sweet forced perspective vehicles always astound me.

That is some slick concept art. Talk about suitable for framing...

Interesting note - it appears they removed the bubble that was present on the older monorails they are trying to replicate...

According to a pilot at WDW the DL trains are keeping the same shell but getting a new system inside.

I wish they would add the bubble back. I never rode up front. I'd really like to do that someday.
