I hope they don't change it too much. I have a certain fondness for the ride itself, as it was one of the only ones I could go on as a little kid, but I do agree that it could use some touch-ups.

I definitely agree with the posters above about trying to put too much "plot" and too many characters into the re-vamp. When the ride originally opened, I'd never seen any of the "Star Wars" films (I think I was 6). I still loved the ride. I appreciated it more after I'd seen the trilogy and got the whole red squadron/imperial star cruiser/moon of Endor/Death Star plot, but the point is you could follow the attraction without all the extra knowledge. Often now Disney tries to shoehorn too much backstory into a ride. I like immersive, not exhaustive.

I'll have to try it once, but I'm not sure I'm going to like the new Star Tours. I'm not sure I'll do well with 3-D and movement together. It would be nice if they could do a 2-D side too. I rarely play videogames because the 3-D effects give me headaches.

Has any one heard when the Star Tours rides will close at DL and WDW? Will they revamp the entire attraction, or just change out the films and projectors in the starspeeders?

I don't know if they're doing it for both Star Tours but all I have a feeling that they'll most likely revamp the entire attraction.

The attraction at both parks will close in October 2010 for a 2011 reopening.

Thanks for dates, Andy. Got to visit them before they close. Do you know if they're changing the queues, too? Be honest, the C3P0 and R2D2 routine is really generic, and could stay as is (only need to update the Star Tours commercials on the jumbo screen). Just wondering if anyone knows just how far they're going to change it.

That is an excellent idea! I also hope they don't try to pack too many characters into the new version. I've only seen one of the Star Wars movies but enjoy the Star Tours ride. It really is in need of a freshing up though.

I'd imagine they'd overhaul the entire attraction, queue and all. I look forward to seeing it... someday!

Alright, so umm I know I haven't posted here in forever - but yay for a topic that I can really get into! So I watch G4 TV all the time and I happened to catch a bit of a rumor mill thing that states that the ride will probably be shutting down near the end of 2009 or 2010, depending on when they decide to do the revamp, but that so far I've heard that they plan to use Digital 3D for the ride, and it looks like they'll be taking inspiration from not only the old classics, but also the newer # 1 - 3.

I've seen screenshot/storyboards for Pod-Racing vehicles, so - just a rumor, but don't be suprised if you get to experience what it's like to get behind a pod-racer and blast off down Naboo's desert terrain, and get first place against some alien butt - by a complete accident.

One thing I'm hoping for is a clip of Han Solo and the Mellinium Falcon! Oh to SIM shooting out of the gun torrent of the Falcon would be a dream come true for me!!

I will be incredibly disappointed if they move forward with JUST a Podracing ride. There were rumors of doing this when Episode 1 came out (10 years ago), and it was a bad idea then and it's a bad idea now. Taking one scene from one Star Wars Movie would be a huge misstep.

If they do move forward with the "Tour" focus and there's multiple rides taking you multiple locations (where podracing is just one) then that's very cool. I've always wanted to go to all the locations they advertise on the posters in the queue and it would be really amazing if you could go to the Endor Moon, Hoth, etc. I do really hope they keep the original in it's entirety as an option or do one that pays massive homage as well.

I agree very much! The pod-race scene in the first film just went on and on like it would never end! It was the part of the film I least liked - and now it's going to be part of Star Tours. I'm just hoping it will only be a "part" - like you, I don't want the WHOLE ride to be the pod-race.
