Trip Report - July 27th

Post by indysoarin19 » Jul Fri 28, 2006 1:33 pm

The following is a trip report from my trip to the DLR yesterday. A big thanks goes out to everybody who wrote in suggestions on how to do this trip in the Mission Impossible: DLR Edition" thread, particularly spaulo and subsonic. Here's how the day went:

I had a wonderful trip to DL and DCA yesterday. The trip was for three friends who had graduated high school back in June and, being a Disney fan, a trip to the DLR was my gift to them. As far as the weather goes, it wasn't terribly hot but it was definitely humid, moreso than normal. The evening was very comfortable and pleasant, weather-wise.

My friends and I arrived at about 9am or so and we went and got Space Mountain FPs. Then, we headed on over to the Haunted Mansion, which had no wait. Next up was Pooh (walk-on) while we were waiting for the opportunity to Fastpass Splash. After we got the FPs for Splash, we rode Space with our FPs, Buzz (15 minute wait), Thunder (20 minute wait) and we then finally rode Pirates for the first time since it reopened. The wait was roughly 30 minutes, but it seemed longer. Still, a fun ride on a classic.

After POTC, I had made lunch reservations at the Blue Bayou. I had asked for waterside seating, but was told it would be an extra half-hour wait. No thanks I said, but when we got our table, we lucked out and got one waterside across from the banjo player in the shack on POTC. At first, I was a bit reserved, since this table is right next to the kitchen door, but it was fairly quiet. The meal was excellent! I had the pork chop and gumbo (first time having gumbo) while some of my friends had the jambalaya and creme brulee for dessert. This was our first time eating at BB and it was a great experience for all.

After BB, we walked over to Splash for our FP return, and then got some more FPs for the evening. And then we heaed over to DCA. For my three friends, it was their first time at DCA, so it was another new experience for them.

We immediately got FPs for Soarin' and GRR, then headed to Paradise Pier for Muholland Madness. After a 20 minute wait or so, we had a great time on MM and the antics on it were one of the memorable parts of the day. Next up was Maliboomer, which terrified some. The 15 minute wait seemed longer for them, but they survived the trip. We then went on Screamin' twice (10 minute wait or so; first time no audio, second time had audio) and then went towards Hollywood. We then went into TOT, which was about a 20-30 minute wait (the wait was longer than posted because one of the elevators was having "tecnical issues" - we found it pretty funny that the old elevator actually did break down) and then went to Monsters, first time ride for all. After that, we used our Soarin' FPs and then waited for our GRR FPs. After a refreshing drop down GRR, we headed back to Disneyland.

We went to Stage Door Cafe in Frontierland for dinner. Then, the dumbest thing in our trip happened. Someone in our group suggested we ride the teacups after dinner, and we were dumb enough to take the suggestion and ride them. If that wasn't enough the next ride we went on was Mr. Toad! Thankfully, nothing bad happened. We then did some shopping in Tomorrowland, and we had our first Dole Whip. It was okay, but not great. We then rode Indy (45 minute wait) and then used up our Splash FPs. I had somewhere along the line dropped my Splash FP, but the CM was kind enough to let me go with my friends. After that, we took a longstroll around the park while the fireworks were going on and then went home.

Our one gripe on the trip was that we didn't do Matterhorn (one person in the group didn't want to wait in line for what she perceived as a really long wait. When we came back later, the line hadn't improved.) Overall though, a great and memorable trip!

I don't have that may photos of the trip and most are scenic shots, but if I post them, I'll let you know.

That's a lot of effort. You hit a lot of stuff in a single day. I'm impressed.
