Pirates Update
This link has been making the rounds and has a neat little video that has some updates to the additions. There is also a game and some other stuff as well.

I wasn't too excited about changing Pirates at first - but I'm anxious now to see the changes - seems like it's going to be pretty subtle.

I saw the additions, and thought it was all right. It doesn't take away from the feel of the ride at all. Some noticable parts are changed, but that's to be expected. Jack Sparrow really sticks out though. My favorite addition has to be the Davy Jones part, even though I don't really like his character. Also the new audio especially at the beginning of the ride is cool.
"A pirate in irons be full o' guile.
And the blackest 'art wears the broadest smile."
Oh, and "Welcome Home."

Last night I finally rode Pirates...twice.

If you haven't been keeping up to date with my posts I haven't been too happy with the changes Disney's been doing over the last few years. That is, until they lauched their 50th campaign. I have stated that Disney has been replacing decent attractions for low budget "what's popular now" attractions. I won't go into specifics but we all should know that for the past years Disney has been building, to quote Roy Disney, "on the cheap".
I've been highly skeptical of the changes to Pirates. Especially because they are theming it after "what's popular now". When I heard they were going to use music and Jack Sparrow my worst fears took hold. I pictured an entire attraction based on the Movie. Most of the original Pirates music would be replaces with the action packed music from the Movie. Pirates and scenes replaced with Jack Sparrow and scenes from the movie.
After riding the attraction I have to sum up with "I more than approve". I don't think Disney disrespected the attraction at all. Everything was an improvement. The music they used from the movie was subtle and fit right in. In the first cave, there's a subtle underlying orchestration of "Yo Ho". It was great. Everything was painted nice, the treasure glittered more than ever. The special effect of Davy Jones is fantastic. The first two Jack Sparrows are added to the attraction and don't replace any characters. (Okay, it replaces the girl in the barrel but Jack is so much better). The animatronics for Jack are amazing. He moves and looks very real. I was very impressed.
Unfortunately, the third and last Jack Sparrow was disappointing after viewing the first two. This third one talks and didn't sound that real and I felt the face didn't look real either. I'll have to say, compared to the other pirates he still looks better, but again, compared to the first to Jacks it was underwhelming.
To sum up...
Good:
The music change is very subtile but a great addition (it doesn't ruin the old feel at all)
Davy Jones water effect
Better sounding cannons and blasts
First two occurances of Jack Sparrow are simply amazing and real looking
More gold in the treasure room
Everything is nice and painted
Bad:
Too many references to Davy Jones
Jack Sparrow at the end was disappointing after the first two.[/i]

New Pirates track
Soo..... Since there is a new Pirates soundtrack, we're going to need that on the station. Anyone have that yet? Anyone have a stereo recorder that can make a clean live recording too?

Agreed that there are too many references to Davy Jones. And now that Davy Jones has a squiddy face, and weird european accent, I have to say, "okay, that's nice."
I also didn't like the final Jack Sparrow. Not because he didn't look like Mr. Depp, but it just seemed out of place. Or it might be that I have to get used to it.

I'm planning on getting a stereo recorder to take with me to WDW in December. I'll get a recording of that soundtrack and any other ones people want. I'll probably start a new thread shortly before going.
