Disneyland Queue Wars!

Post by indysoarin19 » May Thu 04, 2006 10:52 am

What is your favorite queue in Disneyland? Is it the detailed Indiana Jones, the simple but effective Thunder Mountain, the Haunted Mansion for the stretching room, or Pirates with its legendary smell? Mine's Indiana Jones because of the entire experience from the motor generator to the dense foliage to the wall art. A masterpiece of story set-up. Let the tallying begin.

Either Indy or Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin.

Indy because of the overall ambience with the generator, lights, and interactions.
RRCS because of the detail.

Which brings me back to fast pass, because certain attractions weren't designed with fast pass in mind, certain parts of queues are missed.

I confess I like the Indy queue better than the ride. But the queue I like best still has to be Space Mountain once you get inside the building. The shape of the walls, the sound effects, the lighting, and the giant space probe in the station really get you excited about the ride.
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

Indiana Jones queue. The outside part with the music, sfx, and the generator, and the inside with the rock formations, and the traps.

And the blackest 'art wears the broadest smile."

Oh, and "Welcome Home."

For some reason I don't classify the stretching room part of the queue. I'm guessing, that technically, it is, but it doesn't feel that way to me.

For me Indy wins hands down, but if you include the streaching room, which I consider being part of the "ride" since it does move you automaticly, HM comes in a close second.

yeah i don't like the HM queue because to me once you enter the Foyer and the Ghost Host begins speaking, you're actually on the ride... imho...

Answer has to be Indy. Especially at night, when the generator's chug-chugging effect on the lights is even more pronounced.

I know some disagree, but I also really dig the Jungle Cruise 1930's boathouse queue, especially the audio. Pirates would be better if there was more Lafitte's Landing and less outside-winding-around...

Space Mountain is ok, so is Big Thunder... the smell and cool air of Splash Mountain's queue is also a favorite, AND you don't miss anything good in the FastPass line, since you still enter the barn (though usually you pass by the writing on the walls too fast to read it)

There are so many fun lines to choose from. But i always enjoy "Roger Rabbits". there is so much to look at, so many silly jokes. and you feel like you have entered a cartoon

Thinking about it, Indiana Jones has to be the coolest queue area. It gives the ride a little bit of an edge, and also it gets you really excited and anxious. By the time you get to the car (and as cliché as it might sound) you're really inside the story. :D

Indy, it hides the masses way better. I hate walking up to the gates and haunted mansion only to see a gizzilion people zig-zagging outside the building. Certainly something more creative could take that queue. Perhaps monster hedges or shrubs turning the queue into more of a maze? The unkept backyard. hehe

ellison, I like that idea! The mansion should be much more unkept.

As others have mentioned, Indy is amazing. Star Tours also has a pretty neat queue, and if you listen closely there's lots of little inside jokes (like how they page Egroeg Sacul)

What about the queues you dislike the most?

For me that would have to be either Small World in the middle of the afternoon (NO SHADE), or Peter Pan because everyone and their brother tries to crowd you in that queue for some reason. Oh! And the unbearably long and tedious queue for the autopia, at least that one has shade, though.

Roger Rabbit queue goes too long, too loud and the last time I was there it was pretty warm inside. About 1/2 way through the wait I kept thinking to myself...when will this nightmare end. :)

Least favorite queue easily is Small World for the same reasons Shinku had plus every step I take in the Small World queue is a reminder that I'm about to be inundated by one mind-numbing theme song. just kidding. Disonerable mention goes to Peter Pan because it's always so long.
