The kids thought that scene would make a great coaster years ago. I hope they move that idea from blue sky to reality.Amy wrote:That sounds like fun!MadEye wrote:The rumor is that the MI ride that will be coming to WDW Pixar Place will be a coaster based on the scene with all the doors on tracks.mindflipper wrote:I figure, they can do some more work on it and add to DHS as part of the Pixar Place area.

That one might not be possible as a true coaster since the door would act like a giant sail (if you were riding in cars with doors mounted on them).

But a roller coaster than can only move at 6 miles an hour isn't very adventureous.

But then they could advertise it as "senior citizen friendly".Wizzard419 wrote:But a roller coaster than can only move at 6 miles an hour isn't very adventureous.

Maybe that is why it's been delayed/rumored for so long now: they have no clue how to do it yet...Wizzard419 wrote:That one might not be possible as a true coaster since the door would act like a giant sail (if you were riding in cars with doors mounted on them).
It has been rumored since before Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Play It was closed to make room for Toy Story and that was back in late-06 early-07.

Mutual weirdness and call it Love.”

I don't think this would necessarily be a barrier. They've been making suspended coasters for over 100 years, which is what this would be. For an example (the Iron Dragon at Cedar Point), click here: http://www.rcdb.com/17.htm?p=3782. The design probably wouldn't be a true door, but something door-esque, right? Using the imagination to overcome the limitations of physics.Wizzard419 wrote:That one might not be possible as a true coaster since the door would act like a giant sail (if you were riding in cars with doors mounted on them).
Btw, a milder example of a suspended coaster would be the Pteradon Flyers coaster at Islands of Adventure, if they wanted to go that route.

Wow, Iron Dragon is over 100 years old?
I think it's a similar issue to why there is no Mary Poppins ride, the iconic conveyance options from the movies won't work the way they would want it.

So if they made a Mary Poppins ride, they would not be able to use carousel horses like they did from the movie?Wizzard419 wrote:Wow, Iron Dragon is over 100 years old?

That's one of the ideas they revist over and over but they don't pan out.mindflipper wrote:So if they made a Mary Poppins ride, they would not be able to use carousel horses like they did from the movie?Wizzard419 wrote:Wow, Iron Dragon is over 100 years old?

My oldest daughter drew a ride based on this scene last summer. She thought it could work like Casey Jr.'s Train, with the horses on a track that went around part of Fantasyland. Wouldn't it be great if they ever did build something like that?Wizzard419 wrote:That's one of the ideas they revist over and over but they don't pan out.mindflipper wrote: So if they made a Mary Poppins ride, they would not be able to use carousel horses like they did from the movie?

That reminds me, I think Knott's did open a ride like that (a ressurection of an old Coney Island one).
I think one of the reasons they panned the carousel version was that it was only a small portion of the film and since the 90's with the Americans with Disabilities Act (or even further back) they try to make everything easy to use (for staff and customers). They have tons of great ideas but reality usually kicks in and they realize it cannot be done.
Even the overhead conveyance for dark rides has (I think) only been used in one attraction (peter pan). They probably realized that other than for that ride it's way too much trouble.

I agree that it's difficult, but I think it can be done. I haven't ridden the Forbidden Journey yet but I hear it's taken dark rides to a new level. Who knows what will come next?Wizzard419 wrote: Even the overhead conveyance for dark rides has (I think) only been used in one attraction (peter pan).
