Golden Gate Bridge going...?

Post by realcal » Jan Mon 23, 2006 9:28 pm

Has anyone heard that Disney is planning to remove the Golden Gate Bridge structure from DCA (and the Sun Fountain)?

Yup, that's been floating for awhile on other sites... they intend on putting trees up in the front, how sad.

Wow, I didn't even know that. That's so sad. I love riding the monorail through the Bridge.

I think it looks so Goti. Should have put it going over water that would have been cool

And it should have been bigger too. I kind of looks like a joke.

It looks "Goti?" What does that mean?

And while I'd hate to see the Golden Gate go... I can't hardly argue with any attempt to increase the number of trees at that sparse park.

Isn't it supposed to make the entrance look like a post card?

Oh I really liked the Golden Gate! I'll be really sad to see it go. Sure more trees would be good, but not at the expense of the bridge!
Why do they want to remove it?

I still can't figure out where these trees will be planted. I was looking at a picture of the entrance and I can't figure out where. Other than on top of the bridge itself or on the sidewalk under it, not under it but the surrounding area. Maybe they should put them on the "mountains on either side of the bridge then they can keep it. :D

That's what I always believed. I think it was a nice attempt and I'll be sad to see it go. More trees would be very nice but the bridge will be missed.

So is this official or just the usual rumor mill at work again? Seems to me after all the work they did putting the bridge in it and how much of a place-maker it is for the park it would be odd to remove it...

How sad! I really lilke the bridge. I think it's a great way to be welcomed to the park by one of our own great landmarks.

Post by realcal » Jan Fri 27, 2006 8:13 am

This was the original post from a DL Castmember on another forum, for what it's worth...
Well I have some new information it seems 2 new DCA items now on the chopping block are the golden gate bridge and the sun ( you know the one behind the waterfall in the sunshine plaza) They are scheduled for demolition as par the new changes. When this will happen im not sure. ( I dont know when they can unless they like did it all in one night or closed DCA a day. But hey thats disney magic.

You know what I find funny about the golden gate bridge (and the rest of the monorail track in DCA/Grand Californian?

While the front half of the park seems designed to make the monorail look cool as it glides by (in front of Soarin, through the hotel plaza, over the bridge, windows from the store), the view is pretty terrible from INSIDE the monorail. With everything so close to you, stuff just kinda flashes by without ever giving you a real vista of the park like you get in Disneyland.

I would totally vote to spend some money letting the monorail loop through the park (including paradise bay) rather than just skimming the edge of it between buildings.
