Monsters, Inc. Preview

Post by bryceran » Dec Tue 20, 2005 8:16 pm

So I am actually in my hotel right now typing to you all about the Monsters, Inc. sneak preview I went on today. I had never gone on "Superstar" so I did not know what to expect. It is fun, cute, and I would say if belongs in a fantasyland type of place. It fits well with alice in wonderland, peter pan, etc. I liked it much more than the pooh ride. Anyway, turns out there is a sneak preview of the ride today. I guess tha tis all I have to say for now. I have a couple pics, but will have them posted later. thanks

Come on - more dirt! When is it opening for real? Glad it sounds like it is back to the old-school quality! It's got me thinking already about another trip out there, would be great to ride it and hopefully it rejuvinates the whole backlot area. Does it use the old millionaire building too or is that slated for another ride? I can't believe they still have it in MGM, talk about boring - make it a cool ride not an outdated TV show! Ok, enough for now, will wait for the reports to come in!

It sounds like it's not fitting the "theme" of a Hollywood Backlot. But if it's a good ride I'll forget that part.

Anything is better than Superstar Limo, and this sounds fantastic! It may be just me, but those Fantasyland style rides are my favorites. Monster's Inc. was an outstanding movie, so I can't wait to hear more and see pictures. Thanks for giving us the gossip from your hotel Jelloforme!
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Monster's inc had soft openings yesterday and today. Early reports said that they've had "major" breakdowns and malfunctions and haven't been able to keep them open for more than 20 to 30 minutes each time (even after full restart).

Afaik, it uses the same basic ride vehicle as superstar limo, and follows a similar track (it might be the same but my memory is foggy there).

Cast member previews have just been merged into soft openings with regular guests, which has some CM's kind of iirked (really, what does it matter? you still get to ride it).

The ride is "supposed" to open full time sometime in the last few weeks of january/first few of february according to attractions cast members, but there's nothing official coming down from TDA yet.

Yeah, it isn't a true fit but then again Tower of Terror isn't a real Hollywood ride either. You could argue it is in MGM and all but... But the way that area was dead it needs something! Muppets and the Hyperion could only help it so much, ToT helps [as does the animation area but there is no "ride" there], this should bring it back to what it should have been. Hope they work the bugs out asap - though with a basic ride style it won't be like Test Track or Mission:Space and their bugs!

DCA will be rethemed anyway... it's a Walt Disney Theme Parks & Resorts Presentation of a Pixar Animation Studios-Themed Theme Park Experience, Brought To You By Coca-Cola. Or, WDTPRPPASTTPEBTYBCC for short.

(I know I've done this joke before... but this time it's longer!)

But the "Hollywood Hotel" is a real hotel in Hollywood that does have the "people disappeared" myth with it. You can see the hotel off the 101 freeway.

I guess since it's a pixar studios film and since it's a pixar ride in a studios environment it kinda fits in. Maybe they will make a preshow of how they make pixar films or something and then "magically" put you into one of pixar's movies (Monsters Inc. of course)

It's also quite known in the valley for being "haunted" and is one of those "DUDE! I heard about this place and it's totally full of ghosts and you can hear the little girl screaming and omg we should go and camp out there for the night and see if we see anything---unless you're chicken." things you hear about in high school. It's frequently full of scary homeless people.

So back to the actual ride - from what Laughing Place has posted photowise it looks like me like a solid one. The queue looks much like Muppets or other high-detail, punch-line oriented ones. The ride itself is really hard to judge but from the line alone it looks to me like they put a lot of effort into trying to make this a really good ride. Can't wait to read the reviews!

Absolutely LOVED Monsters, probably Pixar's finest or at least my fav.

But does anybody other than me actually miss "Superstar"? Yes it was cheesy and felt like a filler from opening day but there was something about it that just cracked me up.

Call me crazy.

But I am really lookng forward to Monsters. :D

now i can't wait to ride monsters, inc! it looks like a nice throwback to the old rides, but it's modern enough so it doesn't look cheesy. thanks, subsonic!
