Big Thunder Mountain Re-opens at Disneyland

After a 6 month closure Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has reopened at Disneyland Anaheim. This ride promises to be more thrilling with the possibility of death of every turn!

That's pretty morbid

I'll still ride it. I'm sure it's going to be more safe than ever. Hopefully Disney realizes that they need to not make as many cutbacks to save money. Especially in the maintainance division. These are the guys that keep the rides safe.

To me, they need to spend money to make money. Put some effort into new rides, spend a little more on theming them. People will pay to visit them. 2 words proove this point: "Indiana Jones"

Even the theming in old rides like Big Thunder takes a moderate roller coaster and turns it into a fun ride. Another good example of how theming can take a ride to the next level is the Rockin' Rollercoaster at MGM Studios in Florida. That's a great ride made better through cool theming throughout the ride itself.

But what's more important theme wise: cool interactive queues like at Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Line or boring queues with a fantastic ride like California Screamin'

My wife and I were actually in Frontier Land when Big Thunder Mountain RR crashed. It was incredibly surreal. I must give Disney credit though, they handled everything amazingly well and just got everyone out of that part of the park really quickly and calmly.

The only downside was that no one had any idea what was going on (well that and we didn't get to go on that ride). I personally didn't find out until we got back to the hotel and had a message from everyone I knew on my cell phone checking to make sure we where ok.

We went on Big Thunder on Saturday 5/15/04. It felt very safe. I liked that the water splash down actually shot out a little more water than it used to.

I think that link is bad, or I can't get there from here.

I'd have to say, the takeoff on the Rockin Roller Coaster at MGM
is great, but dare I say not up to snuff with the Hulk at Islands of
Adventure. I do like that it is indoors though, you can never
underestamate airconditioning in Florida, or being able to ride
the coaster while it is raining small household animals.

I still think Rockin Rollercoaster was one of the best rides I've ever been on. First time on that ride is something I'll remember for a long time.

I agree, I would much rather be excited about going on a ride knowing I might get sick then not wanting to go on a ride at all.
