Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
I didn't think they would, they are mostly getting procedures down and only want to do a partial stress test. It would look really bad if they had to delay an opening because the ride went over capacity and broke.

The soft openings allow them to rework the rides. I did BTTF at US-Orlando during a soft opening and then later after it's official opening, and they did tame it down. We were interviewed after the ride during the soft opening, so rides can get fine-tuned from soft openings.

Okay, a bit of over-acting there...

The Simpsons was a very poor replacement for BTTF. Y'know how everyone says Disney has lost its vision? Universal Studios has too.

That too, but I don't think there is much to adjust if the ride is an omnimover (if I recall the displays for the ride).
With the back to the future replacement, you have to admit the franchise was heavily dated since there had been no activity beyond the 3rd movie and kids show (forgot which came last). Still, universal has never been able to be that much of a threat to disneyland. When you can go there and get an annual pass for free (with regular admission) you know it's slow.

...and the Simpsons aren't showing their age a bit too? Show has been on over 20 years. And the quality of the film they made seemed poor; it's like some second-rate video game.
I agree US-H is not a threat to D-land, but US-O has two parks that are doing very well. I know Universal was even looking around to build a 3rd park if they could find the land for it nearby.

I was pointing out that BTTF was a dead franchise up until about 6 months ago, even then the game they made with telltale is still on the raw side.
I take it that Orlando isn't having the "buy a day get a year free" promotions then?

I'll admit that DD and I loved The Simpsons when we rode it two years ago. Of course, we never rode BTTF.

If they are, I haven't seen it being advertised. I've heard that kind of deal with Sea World - Busch Gardens.Wizzard419 wrote:I was pointing out that BTTF was a dead franchise up until about 6 months ago, even then the game they made with telltale is still on the raw side.

Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
I like the look of the new paving for Main Street. It really is something that both US parks could benefit greatly from. Looks like it will still be a bit before any soft openings for the mermaid. In order for soft-openings to even be considered, the entire exterior has to be complete and the interior has to be working to the extent that the imagineers can start testing it out with guests. Also, from what I have come to understand, the rumor is Disney will first test things out with CMs before even allowing guests to experience it.
My family did a soft opening test of Mission Space. I will say they counted the number of visitors to the garbage can following each cycle. When it finally opened, the attraction was tamed down.

Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
I am going to say that I am not too surprised. The parks that are offering the "year for a day" promos are all roughly an hour away from disneyland, so the average tourist probably wouldn't put them on the radar.mindflipper wrote:If they are, I haven't seen it being advertised. I'm guessing you and your family all made it safely to Mars and back without visiting the garbage can on the way out?!Len90 wrote:...My family did a soft opening test of Mission Space. Hmmmmmmm, good point, I hadn't thought of that. C'mon, Len90 spill the beans: did you spill the beans after riding Mission: Space?Amy wrote:I'm guessing you and your family all made it safely to Mars and back without visiting the garbage can on the way out?!Len90 wrote:...My family did a soft opening test of Mission Space.
