What isn't surprising is MiceChat getting all sentimental about anything that is going to be taken down/altered. Skyway? "If you have fond memories..." Seriously? It's been closed since '94. The Tomorrowland station was axed long ago without tears. The Fantasyland station can just go away. It has limited aesthetic appeal, little historical value, and, Wizz hit it, probably about to fall down. Offer it to one of the independent Disney museums for free, minus removal and transport, and see how much they care.

Well it is that time of the... well for them, day. We should start a kickstarter to send them a case of Midol and kotex. :D They get nostalgic for the idea of things but not the actual products themselves. Kind of like people who have a hard-on for the people mover and horizons, they were great in the 80's but by the time they closed they were stale and no amount of refreshing could ever make them compelling,

Why give it away when they can sell it to a surplus place that will sell it for a profit as well?

Ah, but that was my point: if they offered it for free, I'll bet one of the museums would still balk at it. That would be a blow to the idea that it needed to be preserved. Once the museums passed, then it could be sold off.

Either that or Craigslist, you can have it for free but only after you have a 3 way with chip and dale. :D

Latest update from Micechat: Candlelight lights up Disneyland with holiday magic and Main Street gets festive with flowers, etc.

I wonder how long the flowers will remain all neat and clean in the flower market display? Even though they are nailed down, people will still try to steal them. I am kind of amazed that the low pumpkin on the Halloween tree didn't get stolen since it was right there.

The one difficulty for the DCA street shows (aside from the music they use) is that holiday shows/add ons are not as simple as world of color since they have to pick/license the songs, create choreography, etc. so they are slow to show up.

Also, as great as what toys for tots does, they won't provide toys to any places that offer services to non-citizens. My company actually changed their donor target when they found this out.

The Flower Market really does look great. I'm for them maintaining it. And I didn't miss the shot across the bow at the Starbucks Market Place in the same paragraph. Let it go, Micechat.

I didn't know that about TFT. As a US Marine-based organization, it's not surprising since they have distinct regulations and self-interests. What do you mean by "offer services to non-citizens," though? Do you have examples of organizations they've snubbed, or statements they've issued? I mean, technically, since driver licenses were okayed for non-citizens this year, any California government-related organization would fall into that category, including Child Protective Services by association.

Yes, one of the local "Women and childrens center" (the place battered women go to), and a few children's hospitals. Our community guy went to verify this thinking it was just some weird charity sabotage so you would donate to a different cause, but they confirmed that if places serve people without documentation of US citizenship (SS#) then they are ineligible to get the benefits. So we switched to Child's play for the cash donations and donate the toys to the CHiPs for kids drive. There is literally no reason they could legitimately give for denial of service since it isn't like kids are going to go and sell the toys, and I would imagine the USMC does not get access to the records to verify that everyone is an actual citizen.

Even CPS does not halt services just because a person isn't a citizen.

Strange. Toys for Tots generally distributes to individuals, not groups, from what I remember. However, each local chapter is semi-independent in how they distribute. For example, the Orange County chapter works in conjunction with St. Vincent de Paul, and distributes from the base (not takes them to other places). The Los Angeles chapter works with the Salvation Army for distribution. I'm wondering what the deal is with the group your company was working with. Good on your team for doing their homework and making a choice to do what was right for you guys.

I thought that TfT did their distro through groups itself since that was the only way to ensure it would actually reach people.

Ewww the LA chapter works with the Salvation Army? Ok I need to make a call to someone because they (the SA) p*** off a lot of people when it was revealed in 2004 that their disaster relief came with mandatory sermons to get aid.

Ever since we started dividing it up, it seems that the groups we work with are less douchey. The toys go to the needy and the money goes to buy toys (at deep discounts) for kids in hospitals.
