I myself am disappointed to hear that news. This one was of the attractions that defined the great imagineering mind at Disney. Goes to show you there is no original creativity left in that department, key word being original. I like the way the article started out "First the theme park attraction inspired the movie -- now the movie is inspiring the attraction." How sad I am

I'm with you, Sarah. Mixed feelings. But at least I will have my memories of the classic ride. But my son, who has never been to Disneyland will never know it. Unless some miracle gets us there this month that is.

I wouldn't want to go to the park while it is closed, its my favorite ride. It just wouldn't be a visit to Disneyland without a ride on Pirates of the Carribean. But then again, I can't think of any attraction I would want to skip.

My fiancee and I were going to go in March after Haunted Mansion re-opened... we're now pushing our plans back to the middle of July, around her birthday... we don't go if HM or PotC are in planned close-down... one time we were there and HM was closed for problems, but that's different... if it's planned ahead, we do not go if either of those two rides are closed, period.

I am all for the changing of rides, so long as it is to tell a new story or enhance the telling of the previous story.

For example, I think that Tarzan's treehouse was a great way to tell a new (and more relevent) story in the parks. I also think that PoC "could" be good if it was redone.

What I hate is when people redo rides for cynical, money-grubbing reasons. More or less they put something into the ride just so they can market it as new and pull people into the park. When changes are made because somebody want's change rather than because the story could be improved, it makes me groan.

My alarm goes off when people talk about tampering with a classic attraction, not because of the way it is (there is plenty of room for improvement), but because the motives involved are somewhat suspect.

There's more open space in Disneyland's Pirates, so hopefully they will leave the good stuff alone and just add to it. I'm a little more worried about WDW's Pirates...unless they put all the new stuff at the beginning, they will probably be destroying a lot of history.

So far I like what Iger's been up to. Cancelling Toy Story 3 and regaining the rights to Oswald are both class moves. I think what he does to these attractions will give us all a clearer view of what kind of man he is.

If they are changing both the American PoC's will they also be changing the PoC's in the other Disney parks?

Most likely. I doubt that they will change two and not the other's. That would confuse people. They may wait to do it but they probably will.

TS3 wasn't cancelled... it was handed over to Pixar. So, it will exist, but instead of a cheap knockoff, the original creators get a stab at coming up with a new adventure for Buzz and Woody and Co.

Ok, to be fair, it was cancelled, then resurrected as a Pixar project.

Meh, I need to get out to Disneyland in the next few weeks so I can see the old ORIGINAL long version of POC one more time before they mess it up..

I love the WDW POC but its nothing compared to the original..

Anyone want to contribute to the "Get addlema and his wife to DL in a hurry fund"?

Fantastic idea. I would definitely enjoy this if it's true.

You cant take away my Disneyland Paris, Pirates of the Carribean!! Its the best out of all the PoC's in the world!!! It doesn't need to be changed. It really doesn't!
That and the Phantom Manor were always my favorites as a kid!

I'm Here in DLR resort now and I found out that the changes will be minimal. They are just adding three Characters, Barbosa in the ship/fort scene, Jack in one of three places, and 1 Will. And Addlema your right the one out here is the better one. I love the fact that you see the treasure first.

I hope the changes aren't too drastic, and I will agree that Pirates at Disneyland is better. To me it just makes more sense that the curse sets in after you see the treasure. And what a vast treasure it is! I especially like the sign as you come in that says "Stow yer weapons" and the pirate that is drinking some enchanted green rum!
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Here's a little thing I picked up from a "friend of a friend" who works for Disney. It was an e-mail sent out by Greg Emmer, the senior vice president of operations at the Disneyland Resort.
