Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
It's weird seeing Paradise Pier without the Maliboomer...
I also think it's interesting to see a "prince" with facial hair. Normally isn't that reserved for the villains?
(Just an observation, not a judgement.)

Villains and supporting characters, but not usually the hero.

I don't terribly regret never going on maliboomer. There wasn't much that drew me to that area of the park since the furthest in I ever needed to go was Toy Story Mania. I forgot, is a new attraction going there or are they going to turn the space into something else?

Found this blurb from the LA Times:Wizzard419 wrote:I don't terribly regret never going on maliboomer. The ride’s removal begs the question: What will replace Maliboomer?
So far, the Mouse has remained mum on plans for the area inside the helix at the western end of the California Screamin’ roller coaster.
Disney’s early concepts for the $1-billion DCA makeover called for a “Toy Story”-inspired Green Army Men parachute drop ride to take Maliboomer’s place — either by converting Maliboomer into a camouflaged paratrooper attraction or relocating and re-theming the nearby Jumpin’ Jellyfish ride. A similar Toy Soldier Parachute Drop ride will open soon in Walt Disney Studios at Disneyland Paris.
As with all things Disney, initial ideas tend to evolve and fluctuate with time.
Current plans call for the Maliboomer location to be turned into a small park with shade trees, benches and a character meet-and-greet area, according to MiceAge columnist Al Lutz.
Long-term plans, still in the embryonic stages, call for a D- or E-Ticket ride to one day occupy Maliboomer’s space, according to Blue Sky Disney, with a second attraction envisioned for the coaster’s unoccupied eastern helix.

Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
People really like the toy story play area at DLP, I would imagine they would just keep the jellyfish ride where it is because of the new ride going in there (that and it would be cheaper to leave it where it is).
The one thing I still cannot get over was that the papers and the news covered the closure of Mulholand Madness like it was a legendary ride. They are only going to repaint it, not knock it down.

It does actually look better without the Maliboomer, to be quite honest. It was more of an eyesore even though it did look nice here and there in photos.

I think a lot of that had to do with the natual fading of the fabric cover for the ride, that and it wasn't really improved from the normal off the shelf version. Kind of like serving something from that Sandra Lee lady, nothing special or remarkable.

Man... the DCA murals look REALLY tacky right now. It looks like they have white trash bags draped all over them. Terrible.

Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
It's going to take a little getting used to not seeing the Maliboomer there, but I don't think I'll ever miss it. It kinda just stood out like a sore thumb.
I'm still trying to figure out how Goofy"s Sky Skool is supposed to fit in with the victorian theme. From the renderings I've seen, it doesn't seem to fit in. Though I am glad they chose to keep the ride...I like it, but only once in a while. It's quite rough.
As far as the murals go, I liked the original idea of them...and it will be strange to no longer see them (and the giant letters that spell out California) in front. I've been trying to get as many pics as possible to remember the original park. I know there are so many DCA haters out there but we rather enjoyed the original park (except Superstar Limo). Though we're excited for the new stuff, it's kinda sad to see the original stuff go.

I'm guessing Goofy's sky school will be themed sort of like the Silly Symphony Swings and that is how it will tie in. Guess we will have to wait and see...MmeLeota wrote:...I'm still trying to figure out how Goofy"s Sky Skool is supposed to fit in with the victorian theme. That's what I'm hoping for too. If the theming comes off as "early Goofy cartoon", then I think it will be ok. We'll just have to wait and see.Amy wrote:I'm guessing Goofy's sky school will be themed sort of like the Silly Symphony Swings and that is how it will tie in. I think that was what they said the style would be "Goofy Educational Film" style.

Well, this is why it's a good thing they'll be gone soon.NaCler wrote:Man... the DCA murals look REALLY tacky right now. It looks like they have white trash bags draped all over them. Terrible.
