Really, they are not completely abandoning the California theme. The front entrance (currently Sunshine Plaza) is suppose to be reminiscent of the day Walt and Roy came to CA in the '20s...hence the red trolleys and the addition of the Carthay Theatre. It's still CA but vintage. As far as the rest of the park goes, you still have Paradise Pier modeled after the old boardwalk parks (and better themed now that it's all Victorian IMHO), and there is still reference to the Wharf area (the main dining area in the park).

Of course, with Flik's Funfair and the opening of Carsland in 2012, I don't think they really blend well with the CA theme. It's kind of turning into a half and half park. Half CA, half Pixar.

But who am I to say anything...just a crazy fan, I guess...

Carsland is very fitting to California life. The interstates are always jammed with cars and traffic. The smog from the pollution of cars. To me it is very fitting. ;)

MmeLeota I think is correct, Len90. If you seen the concept art of Carsland, its geography looks more similar Nevada/Arizona more than California. With TSMM, Mickey's Fun Wheel, the Symphony Swings, and the World of Color - the Paradise Pier seems less California. The Hollywood Backlot is less Hollywood and more Disney. It seems DCA is slowly and surely becoming less and less CA.

I think Paradise Pier is their version of the Santa Monica Pier, to be honest.

A disney-fied version? I liked Santa Monica's, but San Deigo didn't have a bad pier either (smaller).

It's a possibility. I haven't been to the San Diego version but I've seen enough pictures of the Santa Monica one. It could be what they were aiming for though I haven't heard anything about it.

Many years ago, I did a California trip from San Francisco to San Deigo all along the coastline - so I got to see both piers back then. I did remember Santa Monica was a bit more impressive than San Deigo. But you're right - Paradise Pier is modelled after these kind of piers in California.

World of color looks like it should be ready to go as scheduled. Those testing shots are really amazing. Definitely something that I would love to see in person

Interesting update since it shows a lot of progress made on the Cars land area. Also that scaffolding around the Golden Zephyr kind of looks a bit unsafe and a bit scary. Seems like HISTA will be back after Captain EO, unless Disney cut a few corners.

Thankfully the Golden Zephyr is getting a necessary repaint and a possible tuneup. I haven't heard anything about HISTA returning though with hardly anyone ever going to it, I don't see why they should bring it back.

I don't think we ever got to go on the Golden Zephyr during any of our trips - it was always closed due to high winds or other situations. I look forward to riding the refurbished version someday! The whole DCA storyline is a little confusing overall...
