My statement was based mainly on the shareholder vote where a majority of the shareholders that actually voted decided to withold votes for Eisner and the current board. Other companies have typically taken a 10% dissention as a wake up call for action. The current board, when faced with something like 40-something percent dissention and a majority of cast votes decided that they would just blow the shareholders off.

Oh yeah, they totally ignore the 40%. Stupid. There's no visionaries at Disney anymore.

Man I still wish Walt was alive, he would fix everything.
Maybe we should take up a collection, and send the people in charge a bunch of Ouji Boards with the instructions to ask Walt about what they are doing.

Man! - nobody has ever hit the nail so firmly on the head as you did with that most insightful comment! That just sums it up, right there.

Well done, Subsy!

What happened to POTC and HM? They made them into movies.

The ride - the Movie!

Post by ickymouse » Aug Wed 17, 2005 8:34 pm

Yeah - crappy movies. I was digging my fingernails into the armrests at the El Capitan Theater during P.O.C.. That movie should've been called P.O.S.! I could write and essay on why that film was bad. And if one more person comes up to me and says "Hey! You like Pirates of the Caribbean. You' must've loved that movie..." or, "You know, Johnny Depp was doing an imitation of Keith Richards..." - I'm gonna nail their head to the floor. Haunted Mansion was unbearable.

Just face it - the Golden Age of Disneyland is OVER.

But wait - there's more...

To add something to what I just said - I was just transferring some Disneyland video I had on VHS to DVD the other day - I was watching all of the footage of the park from back around 1980 - 1995, and I almost started to cry. There is so much stuff missing from that park that used to rule! The Skyway, The Subs, the MSEP, The Old Space Mountain, the old Tomorrowland, Tom Sawyer's Island (the entire Island, not the new "Fantasmic! Storage area, as it has come to be), The old Autopia, the old Monorail, The Swiss Family Treehouse, the Rocket Jets, the People Remover, ATIS, America the Beautiful/Circle-rama 360 - THE PARKING LOT! - Yes! I miss the old parking lot! They had footage of people walking up to the gates from the old blue & yellow trams - GOD, I miss that! I know there are new generations of kids that don't know any better, but you know what? Screw 'em! This was our park, too. For our entire lives! I almost threw my coffee table at the screen when a segment with Michael...(sorry, I have an involuntary gag reflex that kicks in whenever I mention that scumbag's name) Eisner started talking about how he was going to "Preserve the fine tradition of Walt's legacy..." - whenever you hear that line - "Preserving Walt's legacy" - it means that something that's been there forever is in the shadow of a looming bulldozer. I'm serious. Going to Disneyland now, for me, is like going back to the house you grew up in as a child with your kids - and your son says, "Hey, Dad - the house looks just like when you were a kid" - and you think, "Well, no, not really. The door's the same, but that's about it".

HM and PotC were rides made into movies, not the other way around. Most Disney attractions/rides now are built based on movies. I kinda agree with ickymouse on this. While I liked both movies, to a point, I think that HM was too much. PotC was great (imho) and I can't wait to see what they do in the sequels. HM could do without.

I enjoyed POTC as well.

And js3901 said it. HM and POTC movies were based on the rides. To want to change the rides to make them like the movies is preposterous!

I also like the POTC movie. But in all honesty I like the special features on the DVD of old television segments about the ride even more.

I have such a strong desire to go to Disneyland again, and I fear it will be bittersweet, especially with my favorite land, Tomorrowland having been gutted. But I take hope that my young son who has never been will see the magic that remains.

I enjoyed the PotC movie as well, but that the HM movie was downright awful!

Yeah, yeah - I know. I'm the only person who hated that film. Nothing new.

HM is my favorite Disney attraction and the movie was shameful! POTC was the bomb, however - one of the best Disney movies IMHO. We actually saw it twice in the theatre (RARE!) and own it on DVD.

I'm glad no one brought up that other monstrosity that preceded Hm. In fact, I'd rather watch HM that that other piece of garbage.
