On the most part, all rides are safe. 90% of accidents happen due to rider error. Like the kid that fell out of the Tea Cups. That attraction has been open for decades. Someone gets hurt and it's the ride's fault?

Though, this doesn't relate to BTMR. This is Disney's fault for cutting corners and cutting back on maintance time. Stupid move, now they pay.

Great point, sub. Every situation I dealt with in Guest Relations with attraction based injuries was the result of riders not following the safety guidelines. That's not to say that attractions don't malfunction or cast members don't screw up. But in three years, I didn't encounter one instance of a guest being INJURED due to an attraction problem or cast member error. I think subsonic's estimate of 90% is very accurate, and maybe even on the low side.

Seems safe enough to me. Sure, people have been hurt on it, but people have been hurt on just about everything on earth.

I think it is perfectly safe, or I wouldn't go on it with my arms up the whole way! it's one of my favorite rides.

I have never had any bad experiences with the ride in the many times I've been on it and it's one of my favorites.

as long as you don't stand up and do stupid things, its a safe ride

I never considered it unsafe until I rode it with a bunch of teenage boys on a Friday night. After that, I considered it quite unsafe... depending on the ridership.

I do not think this ride is unsafe. I certainly trust Disney with my safety more than any other park.

There I go, gettin' all philosophical and "stuff" again. Really, safety and security do not exist outside of our own minds. The more appropriate question would have been "Do you feel safe as you ride BTM?". The ride, like all other rides, is not safe, but they do do a pretty good job at making you feel safe. Of course, occasionally something happens to make you re-evaluate your definition of safety (well, it's only killed 3 people* in the last year...it's pretty safe, compared to Bagdad).
Well okay...I'm not sure if your talking safety in general or safety towards amusement parks ride. You state no rides are safe and really don't say why other than safety is an allusion.

Not sure what was meant, but I know this, BTM is about as safe as they come. Any attraction or ride can have a safety failure and a lot of times it's human error or human stupidity.

Give me the choice between riding BTM or a local carnival ride, where you:

A) Check the safety certification posted by the ride and the date is for two years ago and nobody can find an updated notice but they know they got one

B) The guy with 50 tattoos tending the ride looks like he just did a long stretch in the state pen for something godawful and unmentionable and he's muttering to himself about aliens

C) The fact that the teen in front of you is bragging about how many times the local sheriff has come through and threatened to shut the "friggin piece of crap down"

And yeah...I think BTM is safe to ride.

Does anyone know if someone like 6'6" would hit their hands at times if they were waving them in the air? I'm only 6' and I got worried...

I would assume so but just try and keep your hands down as much as possible to avoid worrying about that.

Do we have access to information on how many people get hurt on a ride, Disney or other park. Probably not. So it is going to be ride, at your own risk. I however, feel like Disney would be the safest place to ride, gosh, they don't want a death on their hands. Of course, nobody ever dies in Disney, officially. I would tend to think it would be rider error, or some kind of illness that would harm/kill.

Disney's policy is to move an injured person out of the park right away. There have been several deaths in the park though. Disney does keep records of how many injuries have been in the parks, but you'd stand a better chance of getting the launch codes for our ICBMs!

About ride safety. I grew up in Coney Island, isn't part of the thrill of a thrill ride, there being a chance of actual injury? LMAO!!! ;+>

I believe it is perfectly safe! I've never felt unsafe, never seen anything unsafe.
