I'd always heard it was a scream shield to muffle the sound to be considerate of hotel guests...though the "barf shield" idea was always more fun!

Anaheim is extremely fickle when it comes to the Disneyland Resort. Nearby resident complaints range from firework noise to too much traffic. The scream shields were a must for DCA to be built.

I've heard about how the shields are "scream mufflers" as well. Although I remember the first time we went on we wondered if it was to prevent people getting sick on others below.

I wonder why that knott's berry farm doesn't have the same type of sound shields on their similar rides. Shouldn't they be required to have the same type of thing?

Wow, I never even thought of the noise issue. It makes complete sense. Thanks for the info everyone!

HAHAHAHA, I totally thought they were barf guards as well. I would have never guessed that they are scream shields....

Yeah, they are definitely to shield the noise. I'd imagine guests at the Grand Californian would get pretty sick of it if they screens weren't there. I don't really like them from a rider point of view, it detracts from the feeling of openness that makes those types of rides exciting.
