I voted, then read your explanation... "NO," I don't think it should be permanent... it's fun to go during the holidays and have an almost total NEW ride to go on. good change up for us AP'ers. Their own ride? Maybe... but can't be X-mas themed, should be a "Holloween Town," ride! Roller coaster, a must... maybe into Oggie boogie's lair!

Not a chance, this is one that Walt worked on himself and it is a true classic. Besides, the bean counters know what they are doing - they can really hype the "limited time only" aspect each winter to get some more folks in the gates.

My problem is, I'm going to Disneyland this November for the first time to see HMH, but (naturally) I've never ridden thier haunted mansion. I'm a little disappointed that it has to be this way- I can either visit and see the mansion or visit and see the holiday.
If I've only seen Disney World's Haunted Mansion, is it still cool? I mean, to see how the HM and HMH compare? Because that will greatly affect my vote.
Actually, I'd like to live in some sort of alternate fantasy dimension where they built the HMH as a permanent structure exactly like it is during the overlay. Practical, not, but still, that's what I want. A permanent HMH... and the PeopleMover is still there.

they're regular HM is better in that they have better effects (the Bride, the floating Leota, etc) which WDW is supposed to be getting at some point. I bet the audio is also 100% better out there. as far as the holiday version, you can find videos of the ride on youtube or similar sites. if you don;t want spoilers, then avoid them.
I can't wait to get out there to see how much DLR really differs from WDW. Never been out there before. maybe 2008 or 2009...

The anticipation of the HM Holiday is a big part of the draw to visit during the Holiday season. Once you've experienced it, the you look forward to visit the original version after the holiday season. Leave it as it is. You wouldn't consider leaving up the holiday decorations throughout the year.
A very merry unbirthday to you!

depending on the decorations and their placement, we've left some out all year. lights on the house, for example. we don't have them plugged in all year (unplug them shortly after New Years and plug them back in shortly after Thansgiving).realcal wrote:You wouldn't consider leaving up the holiday decorations throughout the year.
ok, back to the topic at hand... I think a temporary overlay is great when temporary. I love the originals too much (as every time I've gone, it's been in the original state) to change it completly for the entire year...

I definitely think that only having it part of the year is what makes HMH worth looking forward to. Part of the appeal to me is how they do up the exterior each year with the sleigh and list and creepy christmas decorations. Making them take them down each year keeps them looking fresh. And, I like the original just as much. If there were no classic HM, there would be no Paul Frees "Ghost Host"!

I like the Haunted Mansion Holiday, but I LOVE the original. Nightmare Before Christmas is a good movie/attraction, but to be honest, if it was a permanent ride, it wouldn't be a priority.
And P.S. Disneyland - take all the Nightmare crap out of the shops when the holiday ride isn't going. Maybe some actually Haunted Mansion souvenirs would be nice once in a while!!
