Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
Nah, it's the same as every year so nothing to see.
I did notice one odd thing. I don't think they take the holiday decor down at the tex-mex place next to Big Thunder. If you go through the walkway of chili pepper garlands they have little punched-metal things that look like ornaments.
Also, was it ever covered that Indy hasn't really worked right in almost 2 years?

Maybe the ornament thingies aren't meant to be Christmas decorWizzard419 wrote:Nah, it's the same as every year so nothing to see.

What's not working right with Indy?

Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
It's very hard to tell, next time I am there I will snap a photo of it.
Indy has kinda not been working right, the chamber of destiny's door doesn't seem to be working (it's always held open), the hall of promise (for the future) doesn't have the magic eye working anymore, the scrim in the head never worked so that's ok, and in the boulder scene indy seems to have lost the 2nd line of audio (it just repeats 2 of the lines when you arrive) and the timing seems to be off since the rock comes in mid sentence.

Oh that's sad about Indy. That is such a great attraction. I wonder if it is due for a refurb soon?Wizzard419 wrote:It's very hard to tell, next time I am there I will snap a photo of it.

Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
It actually just had one a few years back, I think it was tied to the movie coming out. They made a few changes such as repositioning the figure at the gates of doom, and turning the lava pit from a pool of water to a bed of lights.
They never could get things like the falling rocks, tunnel of torment, gates of doom, and some (rumor I never saw it) lava/goo effect to last.
With the falling rocks, it was a cool and dramatic entry to the main area where one of the light beams would hit the roof and rocks would fall into the lava, this was done with an ice machine and it would fall into a pool of water (so no mess). The problem was that the machine broke shortly after the ride opened, and the effect was cool looking but bad because it fell directly from the machine rather than a stockpile so it only activate when there was a completed sheet and a car coming down the stairs, rather than for every car that comes in.

I'm guessing I never saw the falling rocks/lava effect working properly then ~ that sounds like it would look cool!Wizzard419 wrote:It actually just had one a few years back, I think it was tied to the movie coming out. Any word on if they will patch that bit of steel structure of the mountain range in Carsland you can see from Mickey's Fun Wheel?

You still get the hose, but I can't seem to find my pants...
I wonder if the owners of the Pacific Electric Railway trademark are fighting them on the parody usage for the redcar?

Quite well actually (depending on which side you're on), Disney would have to prove to a judge that their variant is not only different enough but also shows creativity. I was surprised to learn just recently some little company bought the rights to the logo and whatnot for use on model railroad and rettained the rights for all other usage as well.

Oh, I forgot to add, remember a few weeks back there was that blurb about someone getting hit and killed while riding their bike? When we were going to DLR yesterday we saw someone had added a ghost bike to the memorial, I didn't know the did those out here.

I'm not sure if there is a foundation that does them or what, but whenever someone dies along the roadside someone usually sets up a memorial (you can also tell which people are really having trouble letting go since they can stay up for years). In the case of a car taking out a bike someone may paint a bike all white and affix it to a fence or whatever (so it cannot be taken) and affix a little note/plaque to it as a memorial for the victim and as a reminder for motorists.

Oh, those memorials are everywhere around here, and they stay virtually forever it seems. I did actually see one that had a white bike with it too...Wizzard419 wrote:I'm not sure if there is a foundation that does them or what, but whenever someone dies along the roadside someone usually sets up a memorial (you can also tell which people are really having trouble letting go since they can stay up for years).
