Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
Always fun to read the update. I actually like the idea of shrinking the planters a small bit. Keeps the big trees but still frees up some much needed space for the days with big crowds. Any word on when soft-openings will start for ST2 or TLM?

No word on soft openings yet (that and the entire areas are still blocked off)
I think one reason they finally shrunk the planters there was to attempt to also keep the crowds on the sidewalks when the characters come out.

Area can still be completely blocked off and still have soft openings. I know Mission Space was walled off when we got to test it out. They just open a part of the wall to let you in. I'm assuming it can't be too far off since they are putting the finishing touches on the exteriors and outdoor queues.Wizzard419 wrote:No word on soft openings yet (that and the entire areas are still blocked off)

When I say "blocked off" I mean there is no ground as well, if I recall the paving isn't done.

Yeh, that can be "grounds" for not doing a soft opening yet...Wizzard419 wrote:When I say "blocked off" I mean there is no ground as well, if I recall the paving isn't done.

I think once the rotunda is painted and the sign is propped up, they should be almost done with the ground work around the rest of the ride building.

Yeah... not impressed with Ariel's hair. It might look better in the dark but overall it looks like this really early test run that was done on a low end 3D engine.

I don't think I ever told you all this, but the construction for the Little Mermaid ride was actually done by a Calgary company that's renowned for creating set designs (Wicked is their most famous design). They helped my daughter last year when she was designing a rollercoaster model, and she got to see a lot of the work in progress. It's good work.

They really should have focused the hype of Ursula, at least she turned out better.
I think this kind of serves as proof behind the big reason there had never been a little mermaid ride featuring Ariel, whatever you do, she's going to be out of water and you're never going to get a halfway decent effect. She make's nancy grace's helmet hair look good

The size of the rock work in Cars land is just astounding!
I agree, that one AA of Ariel that has her hair twirled up in a soft-serve cone shape does look a little bad. To be fair, the Imagineer did say they were still working on her hair though...

What's going to be great is when the mechanisim in her hair breaks down, so then it really will be locked in place. It wiggles but it doesn't have that nice flow that you would expect. If they could figure out how to downsize the physics of a the tornado in the agricultural fabric video (can't post here due to lots of swearing), then they would be in great shape.

The painting outside the attraction doesn't look all that appealing but I'm sure it will grow on me overtime.
