I think they've just become more relaxed about that issue, and realized that they sell way more Dole Whip and Dole Whip Floats if they allow people to then eat those items during the show.

When I worked Stores at the park and I'd come across a particularly run-down looking tourist at 2:30 in the afternoon in mid-July, I'd always pitch them the Tiki Room ("it's air conditioned, there's never a line, you can sit down, the show lasts for 13 minutes . . . and did I mention the Dole Whip?...").
You know, I always thought they belonged together (Tiki Room and Dole Whip) until a young guest told me I wasn't supposed to bring food or beverages into the Tiki Room. Fortunately, the CM didn't say anything. A visit to the Tiki Room w/o a Dole Whip is just not the same, jmho.
