We were on the canoes monday with our two young girls...was shocked at how rough things got between two boats....

Hitting of paddles....boats collieded...we even hit the rocks...

Ive never actually been on the canoes before and that sounds shocking to me. They always looked so smooth when they're out on the water.

Were those all done accidentally or intentionally?

We went on the canoe's during our last trip in March with our two sons (6 and 2) nothing like that happened to us. Our ride couldn't have been more smooth. - blue

I have yet to try out the canoes but now after hearing about that, I think I may prefer to stay on dry land instead.

Probably just a fluke. I've never experienced anything like that, and I've been on them quite a bit, since it's one of my favorite things to do at Disneyland. Maybe just some seasonal cast members returning to college soon and having some end of summer antics???

I tend to agree with Davy Jones.....It seemed as though there was rivaly between the cast members on the boats....They were just a little to agressive....

Hard to say if they were intentional, as they are not on tracks....it happen shortly after you take off, there is a small rapid area with rocks..

We love the ride and of course will go again...just hopefully a little less action...

I have been on the canoes several times, and have never experienced anything like that. I have though ridden it when our guide wanted to race another canoe, that was kinda of fun, but he always made sure that we weren't near the other canoe. But, I agree with daveyjones, as it was probably seasonal castmembers wanted to go out with a bang.

I have been on the canoes plenty of times. I have even participated in the CM annual canoe races when I worked there (I don't know if they still do that). I know some CMs like to mess with each other, they really do have all the control over those things. It could have also been that the group in the other boat was being rowdy. For my friend's 30th bday we had a group of about 20 and practically filled the boat. When you get a bunch of people coordinated without kids like we did, we got all pumped up and paddled out butts off. We passed 3 other canoes. :)

So yeah, you just ran into a fluke :(

This is a reference to my bday trip from 4 years ago. We had some serious speed! 8-)

Funny you should mention that Sub..The CMs were talking about those races..
I think they said the record around was around 4 minutes..

It would be be a blast to bring all of your friends and give it a whirl..
Or take a few Olympians out and see what they could do time wise...

We are going back tomorrow...without the kids...will give it another shot...

I agree that it was probably just some students having a last hurrah before they're done working. It would have been scary with little kids, but a lot of fun otherwise!

Sub, they still do the CM races, I believe the Pier Pressure team won this year.
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

A friend of mine is a CM, and last summer he was on a canoe racing team, like Sub mentioned above...they would get out there before the park opened and race each other. Of course, my friend's in finance, so their team didn't really stand a chance against the regular canoe workers. :) Still sounded like a pretty good time though!

I went on the canoes once... and half our crew didn't speak english (asian tourists) and the rest of us had to paddle... the CM was peeved and I don't blame him. Not a fun experience in general...

I have mixed feelings about the canoes. One time I went on it, and the CM guiding us seemed like a jerk. He was kind of rude to us, telling us to just paddle and since we had a lot of kids, kept on saying how slow we were, and it just zapped all the fun out of it.

But other times have been better. I would love to do the canoe race, seems like a lot of hard work, but fun.
