I like it. Just a little more magic, and it doesn't look like a cake.

Thank you everybody for your views. This was my first thread. Very cool to "hear" other views.

I'll be going with my family tomorrow. It'll be their first time there in over a year and a half, so it should be fun. From all of the pictures I've seen, I think they did a good job with it. In any case, it looks better than the crowns or tiaras they put on the castle for the 50th. I really hated those things.
I'll let you guys know what everyone that went with us thought!

Saw it recently, it looks really nice and they did a good job at night with the excellent lighting. And it sure beats having real snow, I get enough of that back home!

I saw pictures of this in the AP magazine and then last week saw it for real. I wasn't quite what I expected. I thought it was going to be something more than a gack of Christmas tree lights. I still liked it though. :)

Ok, So I saw this in person and I have to say that it is impressive that they were able to do this. But then after seeing how they did it and how half ***ed they did it I can only say they better do BETTER next year.

I feel this way not because it looks bad, but because it isn't finished in my opinion. The front half of the castle looks good, and still looks good during the day. The only lights you can actually see with the naked eye is the ice cycle lights hanging from the towers. I love that they imbedded the LEDS in the "snow" caps. This means that you can only really see them at night when they are on, or if you are 15ft or closer to the caps. The shimmering effect is OK I wish it didn't do that though. Snow doesn't shimmer it reflects , and it doesn't do that at night anyway.

So I went over the stuff I liked now for the stuff I didn't like. The shimmering effect needs to go, snow doesn't shimmer it reflects, and it doesn't do that at night anyway. The castle is only half done because the back half of the castle has nothing on it. No snow, no ice cycles, not even the hint of cold weather. If you are going to make the castle look like it was snowed apon then the whole castle should be covered in "snow". I have pictures of this and I will post them in a day or so along with other pictures I have.

I saw it today, during the parade on ABC. :) I thought the ice-capped castle looked really nice actually. I "ooohed" when they showed the nighttime version too.

I agree. I've seen a lot complaints about this. Hopefully Disney is taking note of them and will cover the rest of the castle next year.

i had no idea that they did this at dl as well as wdw. i just saw the vid of sleeping beauty's castle with the snow lights on youtube.

i must say, i think the effect was a lot nicer with cindy's castle (we saw it this past dec)...however, i think it's nice for both. i mean, it's not obnoxious looking (like the bday cake) and they're only on at night...so if you want a pic with the normal looking castle, the day is free.

i know that everyone at wdw walking down main st for the first time since the snow lights were put up was in awe. people looked like zombies oohing and aahhing. it really was beautiful.

What like turtles.......

Anywho, I do have to say that according to the photos of the WDW castle (CC) during the day the DL castle (SBC) is better (during the daylight). The reason I say this is because the lights on SBC are imbedded in the snowy caps, as CC has them as net lights.....bleh. But yes they do look great at night.

I only have a pic of the CC during the day right now. I should have a pic of SBC a little later.

lol @ like turtles! ;)

hm, well we really didn't notice them during the day too much. then again, we weren't that close as that pic of course lol...

i guess we weren't looking for them, though, either. or maybe we noticed them, but barely? i don't remember them being really obvious or anything, though. i loved how it looked so much at night that i wouldn't mind it even if they were noticeable...then again, if i was getting married or something at wdw during the snow lights, maybe it would bother me that pics taken during the day for the wedding party with one of the MK photo packages would show the net lights. i heard that when wdw's mk had the birthday cake for the 25th, that many people cancelled their weddings because of it.

I think most people didn't notice the lights on Cindy's castle because they don't spend a lot of time up close and appreciating it. I'm all for the lighting that was used on SB's castle, embedded in the snow, because I take a ton of pics of the castle when I'm there (can never have enough!).

Maybe they will employ some of that snow design on Cindy's castle this year.
