Need some pointers first time going to Disney Land

Post by csquare77 » Jun Tue 26, 2007 12:26 pm

I am going to Disney Land for the first time in September but only for a day. I have been to Disney World a bunch of times. So my question is; what should I really try to see that is different from Disney World where I have such a limited amount of time?

First pointer... it's Disneyland, not Disney Land :)

Things that are different from WDW or unique at DL/DCA:

Pirates of the Caribbean (much longer than WDW's)
Haunted Mansion (a little different)
Buzz Lightyear's Astro-Blasters (a little different from Space Ranger Spin)
Indiana Jones Adventure
Roger Rabbit's Car-Toon Spin
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
Alice in Wonderland
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage
California Screamin'
Monsters, Inc.: Mike and Sully to the Rescue
Grizzly River Run

Just off the top of my head at least....

Pirates is different, definitely worth the visit! Monsters Inc is great (California Adventure), Nemo is new. The castle is different, not better, just different.

Hey, Spaulo, how 'bout that big mountain next to the castle?! You gotta ride The Matterhorn.

DL's Peter Pan was "upgraded" and the fiber optic stars alone make this ride worth waiting for.

Also unique:
Casey Jr. Circus Train
Sailing Ship Columbia
Railroad through the "fascinating primaeval world"
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

D'oh! How'd I forget Ye Olde Bobsleddes?

Also... Storybookland Canal Boats. Still cute.

Also, try not to get disoriented! Our tomorrowland and adventurelands are "backwards" from what you're used to at WDW.

Also worth mentioning:
-"Disneyland: the first 50 magical years" inside of the opera house on main street
-Tarzan's treehouse, if it's up and running, I believe this is a DL only? Someone correct me if I'm wrong
-Tom Sawyer's Island's pirate theming

TARZAN'S treehouse is DL only, however, WDW has the original Swiss Family version still intact.

I've never been to DLR to compare, but the ORIGINAL TIKI ROOM, not that updated piece of garbage at WDW...

Do explain... Tomorrowland is on the right as you come out of Main Street to the Hub, and Adventureland on the left, just like in WDW's MK.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Space Mountain!

DLR's is a lot better. It recently has upgraded audio, effects, and a redone track (same track pattern, just smoother)

Sheesh!

Addlema would be good for this as I took him to Disneyland for his first time three weeks ago. He's been to WDW plenty of times.

Toontown is different too... If you like the kids stuff, the go-coaster is fun but really short. Go when fireworks or a parade is on, they sometimes let you just sit and go around and around if there are no other takers.

it's a small world has a much better facade in Disneyland and be sure to check out the topiary animals!

Fantasyland also has Pinocchio's Daring Journey.

Oh, and as js3901 mentioned the Tiki Room is not refurbished and as far as I'm concerned is much better than Disney World. It's a classic must see.

I almost forgot two things. First, you have to stop into the Disney Gallery above Pirates. Second, if it's running you might want to take a trip on the Sailing Ship Colombia.
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Hey, besides all the attractions everyone mentioned above, don't forget to see the "Dreams Really Do Come True Fireworks. It is an awesome show. The best place to see it is right in front of Sleeping Beauty's castle at the HUB. Have a good time. :mickey:

Hey thanks for all the pointers, I'm really looking forward to going, even though it's only going to be for a day. I don't go out to that part of the country that much.

Oh, I'll throw one in too, the monorail is a "ride" more them a transportation system, though it does service a hotel right?
