I wasn't too excited about changing Pirates at first - but I'm anxious now to see the changes - seems like it's going to be pretty subtle.
I'm in the same boat. It will be fun to see the changes :D

I also didn't like the final Jack Sparrow. Not because he didn't look like Mr. Depp, but it just seemed out of place. Or it might be that I have to get used to it.
I don't know if you went to the one in WDW or DL (same goes for Sub) but I think that I was most impressed with the third figure. His entire body, including face, his mutterings, and most importantly his gestures which seem lifelike and Jack Sparrow-like.

However, I would say that he is my least favorite simply because unlike the other two this Jack really caused a scene to be removed (at least not in WDW) whereas all of the other scenes nothing really changed other than either the addition of a figure/effect (Davy Jones, 1st JS), or a replacement figure (Barbosa, 2nd JS) without really editing the scene. The third one, however, completely removed WDW's final scene. Sure the treasure room is still there, but even the room is different. They removed the guards bound to the chair, they removed the drunken pirates shooting the barrels - which were some of my faves, I just loved the way the one guy was sort of sitting on the other guy it was funny. Now it's just Jack (although a truly amazing Jack) with a parrot (although a truly amazing parrot, it actually looks like a real living parrot!) and he says funny things. I felt it was the only place they overstepped themselves and really took something away from the original whereas the other changes did not.

EDIT: Oh and does anyone know if they reversed which shore the auction scene was on in WDW? I would've sworn that the auctioneer + the women were always on the right side, which is the far "shore" from the boat, but after the changes the auctioneer + women are all on the left closer to the boat whereas the drunken audience is all on the right side. Is this a change or am I just mixed up? The bullet effect on the sign in this scene seems louder and more emphatic now too btw.

EDIT 2: ACK! I just realized I was posting in DL's thread! Oops! Sorry! But still if anyone wanted to know about WDW and/or has an answer to my question please feel free to post/message me!

I rode the Pirates at Disneyland. I've always enjoyed the two pirates trying to lug up the treasure, and I'll miss that. The 3rd Capt. Jack is impressive, but I don't care much for it.

In WDW, I also liked the final scene where those two guards are tied up! That one scene made the Pirates attraction in WDW different from the one in DLR aside from certain scenes being set up on different sides of the boat. It's a shame that scene was taken out.

I'd love to see pictures if you can post them.
Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle until the ride comes to a full and complete stop. Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your day here at Walt Disney World.

Finally saw the new Pirates movie yesterday (LOVED the ending!!) so now I'm extra-stoked to see the additions to the ride next weekend. I've been trying to avoid detailed write ups (like Sub's, here) so I can experience it myself, but I have heard there are inclusions of Davy Jones, so I'm glad we saw the movie and "get" who he is.

If you don't want to hear anything about the ride don't read this until after you have riden. And if you do want to just highlight the entire thing.

Adding to what Sub has said already, since the goods and bads are dead on, I have to say I really enjoyed it. Did anyone notice all of the bottles in the water? Were they there before or are they new, I think they are new. Infact all of the water effects are cool. The waterfalls in the begining of the ride, after the second drop, seem to be stronger. I never remembered getting wet as I went past them before. Of course the drops are now wetter aswell. All of the water splashes from the cannons and pistol shots are great, some go as high as 30 or 35 feet. In the fort scene they added and air cannon, sub woofers, and projections of shadows sword fighting.

The first Audio Animatronic Jack Sparrow (AAJS) is cool but it is kind of out of the way a little. What I mean by that is he draws your eye and you miss some of the Auction scene so you don't hear as much of the funny dialog. Don't get me wrong I loved it but you do stare at it. The second AAJS is awesome and hilarious ta boot. Just the interactions with the dialog of the Blue pirate (don't know the real name) and the dog are funny. The movements are very fluid, so you can tell the Imagineers took time in creating it. As for the third AAJS I don't agree entirly with Sub on that one. I counted over 25 movements in the head alone and the body has to have atleast that many too. He even leans back in his chair as he is singing. The only 2 complaints I have of that one is that the movements aren't as fluid as the others. The other thing is that they took out the scene with the pirates trying to push and pull some of the treasure up the ramp, I always liked that.

There are only a few things I say they need to work on.
1. The Barbossa on the ship needs a better face, it looks vaguely similar too Geoffery Rush.
2. I think they should've changed the men in the fort to be English. It adds another movie refferance and doesn't really disturb too much. And then they could've had a Jack Davenport voice.
3. the parrot at the end of the ride, or in the queue whichever you think it is, needs the volume turned up on it. I couldn't hear a thing with all of the people in the queue talking. I only heard it later at night.

Sounds like the new ride is a success! I can't wait to see for myself. Somewhere or other I heard that the lines for Pirates are now really long. Is this still true and is there fastpass now? I must start making my plan of attack!
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

No FP. Line wraps through all available "normal" queue area at the ride, plus makeshift queue cattle lines in front (about five-six switchbacks at least 40 feet long each) then proceeds down to the HM.

People were getting in line for PotC in front of HM. Hard to gauge the wait time in that situation (we certainly didn't wait!) but it looked like it had to be 70-90 minutes, minimum.

This was Sat/Sun/Mon 8/5-8/7.

You got there at the wrong time spaulo. The wait time was never that long a week earlier. I think 35 minutes was the longest observed, and it never even went past the two turns out in the makeshifts. I found that the line to the right was always 3 minutes shorter than the left.

I was angry at first when i heard about the changes but after actually going on the ride i am okay with it. I particullarly like davey jones. I was talking to a CM and she told me that next year they are also going to add Miss swan and Will Turner to the ride! It will co-inside with the third movie opening. i just hope they don't replace scarlet with Miss Swan.
Yes, this is my happy place! Well, when not in my happy place.

It's official, The family is visiting Disneyland in October!
