Thanks Shinku that answers my question. I believe I want to stay at the Disneyland Hotel for old time sake, to see how much it's changed. I am sure though by the time I can actually afford to go there will be even more changes =)

I am going to Disneyland in June and am staying at the Grand Californian. Is it really as good of a hotel as everyone makes it seem?

By the way: there is always a certain "magical-ness" of staying at the on-property hotels. No busy streets and unsightly "Vegas" signs (as Walt said once).

I've stayed at both the Grand and at DLH. It's definitely a great hotel, but not very Disney-esque. You feel like you are staying at the Four Seasons or something. Disney has done a ton of work on the DLH in the past couple years and I just stayed there in January. I'd definitely recommend it over the Grand because (a) it's cheaper and (b) the atmosphere at the DLH just screams Disney (paintings, wallpaper, beds, lights, everything).

I have stayed at both and these are my thoughts exactly. I'd go one step further and suggest avoiding Paradise Pier Hotel unless you are guaranteed a park view room. There is nothing Disney about that hotel.
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.
