Thank You Walt Disney Inc

Post by rdeacon » May Tue 29, 2012 8:53 am

The Disney Blog just posted an interesting article about the drive to preserve Walt's original Kansas City studio.

Its worth a read:

I live in Kansas City and I work about two blocks away from Buttonwood Studios, where the artwork will be on display. I plan to go to the reception this Friday (oh wow, that's tomorrow!).

I'm sure I'll snap some pictures. I'll try to post them somewhere and provide a link.

I wonder what the Walt Disney company thinks of this? I notice they have no ties or permission granted to use the name.

A few weekends back, one of the local news stations ran a story about the continuing efforts of Thank You Walt Disney; when a major piece of renovation was finished at the Laugh-O-Gram studio, I think a representative of the Walt Disney Company (WDC) was present. Also, I believe one of the points of the story was that the Walt Disney Company fully supports the efforts of Thank You Walt Disney, Inc..

I think the Laugh-O-Gram studio falls into the category of preserving the heritage and inspiration of Walt Disney. I wouldn't expect WDC to offer up the funds to renovate and preserve the building, especially since the location is nowhere near Anaheim or Orlando. If there can be little or no return on the investment, why do it? WDC is, after all, in business to turn a profit.

That's just my 2¢.

They might be doing themselves a disservice if they don't indicate that WDC recognizes them, otherwise people may think "This guy could be shut down and my donations will not get refunded".

Still, it will be another nice "Disney" place to visit.

I apologize for not taking the best of pictures; the only camera I had on me was my iPhone. The building faces the West and it was very bright inside the gallery and it was wall to wall people. So, we didn't stay long.

I'm sorry, I don't know how to add images to my post, so I've provided the URL to my Flickr page.

Here is the corrected URL. Sorry for correcting, but wasn't sure if you were comfortable with providing links on these forums!
