Subsonicradio - Help Broadband Needed!!
As most of you know Subsonicradio is a completely free service. We do not advertise or charge for any of our services. We have been very fortunate to have a few people step up and donate servers, and bandwidth, to keep the growing number of members happy. Occasionally we have a situation where the person who donated the server/bandwidth can no longer provide that service, and as a result need someone else to donate.
Flyingcowofdoom has hosted 2 of the streams (background and schedule) for a few years now, but can no longer host those streams. We would like to thank him for his generosity, and support for subsonicradio. Since he can no longer run those relays we will be forced to either discontinue those streams, or severely limit the number of slots on the request, scheduled, and background streams as we will have to combine them on one server.
We currently have a few individuals who donate bandwidth and run relays for us, maybe you can be one of them. Hosting a relay takes a large amount of upstream bandwidth. If you have a connection that is 5mbps up or greater, have a spare pc, and be willing to donate them to the cause, please let us know.
Thanks
Team SR

Thanks for the kind words! Anyone who is interested in hosting should do it; it's very easy and you get over a million dollars. Oh wait, that last part was supposed to be secret...

How large of a hard drive does this system need? What type of system?

Re: Subsonicradio - Help Broadband Needed!!
The server itself can be basic, it uses very little resources and drive space. The relay does not host any of the tracks. It just really handles the relay request from the encoder. I have the 96k request relay running on an older P4 laptop, with1GB of ram and a 36GB hard drive. Shoutcast streamer uses very little resources except for bandwidth.

If I were a tech person, I'd really help you out here but I hope that someone's able to take control of the reigns with that.

I am interested, the internet out here is rarely, and I mean rarely faster then 5 mbps though. Probably my kryptonite.

To host a stream you would need at least a 5mbps upstream connection

Re: Subsonicradio - Help Broadband Needed!!
Just talked to rdeacon. I could have given 5 up, but he said it may not be enough. I am going to check into some other options and will get back to you!
Re: Subsonicradio - Help Broadband Needed!!
Seems like 5 mbps upload is the best I can do right now. If that can help at all, please let me know! I would LOVE to be able to help out!
If it makes a difference, I have two ethernet plugs in my PC, which if I am thinking correctly on how it works, I can use the one as dedicated to a virtual machine running the software to run a relay on while the other one is used solely for my home network, that way it has a dedicated line to the router. Will that help at all?
