Subsonicradio at work

Post by rdeacon » Mar Tue 09, 2010 9:45 am

Hi all...

I'm trying to get an idea if there is a large amount of members that can't connect to subsonicradio.com at work. Odds are if you can't its due to your employer blocking certain ports. If there is a large number of users that can't listen, I will see if I can create a new port for those users at work to listen. Now this might not help everyone depending on how strict your work IT dept is, but might allow some more members to listen at work.

Thanks

Rich

I can listen fine at work but when I try to stream music at my son's school when I am volunteering -- no go. It looks like a big ban on any streaming or videos at the school level. I like that you have different streams and they don't play the same songs at the same time every day. Keep up the good work! :mickey:

That might be because your school is blocking port 8000 but not 6000. I believe dtunes is on 6000 while subsonic is on 8000. I know that Rutgers has yet to block any ports, but they do limit you on your bandwidth. If you hit the limit, they temporarily suspend your internet privileges.

That's the case at most colleges.

Len,

Can you confirm dtuneslive uses 6000? If that port works for most people I could easily add that one if we need it.

I think this might be able to confirm port 6000. Here are the stream URL's that pop up when I check it in iTunes. All of the steams here end in 8000 or 8002.

ports 6000, 6008, 6010, and 6020 don't work for me. the "pete server" of dtuneslive works for me here at work. what port is the "pete server" coming through? you have to request access in order to hear it. when it first pops up, i have to enter my registered dtuneslive username and password, but then it plays.

I can listen at work - but not at home. Pretty sure that would be MY computer's problem. Love your site!!! Keeps me going in between Disney trips.

My employer blocks any streaming content, so not sure that adding a port would make a difference...wish there was another way! :mickey:

That would be great, my employer also blocks the address. It would be wonderful to be able to listen in at work. Thanks for giving it a go in advance!
