Second Request Stream

Post by Subsonic Radio » Mar Thu 05, 2009 12:17 am

Instead of posting technical difficulties I thought it would be nice to post good news for a change! :)

I am please to announce we have a second request stream, This stream plays the same tracks as the request but on a different port. The standard request stream plays on port 8000. The second request stream is broadcasting on port 800.

Please use the main request stream first, which has 75 slots as your primary request server. This way the 25 slots for the new request stream can remain open for those that have difficulty connecting to the main request stream.

Enjoy

dear team SR and srdeacon,

first, i want to say thank you. yesterday i shared my frustration with not being able to listen to SR at work and in one day you took steps to try to rectify the situation. thank you for working so quickly!

unfortunately, i should have checked with my job's IT administrator before i asked if other ports than 8000 were available for broadcasting by SR. apparently, the only port we can receive info through is port 80. had i know this yesterday, i could have been able to ask for that specific port. i hope it wasn't too much trouble to setup port 800!

if anything could be done to change ports, that'd be great. if not, i am VERY impressed with the speed at which you responded to the situation. i only hope that somebody else out there can benefit from the stream on port 800.

as we all know, listening to music from disney makes the day that much brighter and the work finish that much faster.

thanks again...this website rocks...and thank god for the weekends when i can listen all morning long at home!

sincerely,
disneyMnG

DisneyMng,

Hmm.. sadly 80 is one of the few ports I cannot use. Did they say they limited the open port to just 80? I can change the port easily, perhaps if you get a chance, drop into chat, we can discuss some alternative ports.

I just thought of a port I can try. I will switch it tonight, so you can test it for tomorrow.

rich,

you're the man! i'll do some research on my end to find what ports can be used; my firewall is pretty extensive, so hopefully by figuring out which port can work for me will unlock SR for lots of people!

I would first like to also say thank you for all you are doing to help us subvert our gestapoed IT departments. All of this is Geek to me, but the 800 port thingy still does not allow me to listen at work. Hopefully rdeacon's alternative will work for me too.

YOU, SIR, ARE A GENTLEMAN AND A SCHOLAR!

I haven't listened in months, since I left a company that opened port 8000 for one who kept it closed. Now I am listening again.

Huzzah! spaulo is back!

I used to have this problem with some of the streams (before the server shuffling a while back), but don't anymore. Regardless, thanks for helping the locked out people. I can sympathize with how frustrating that is. You rock, Rich. :)

Brilliant - does this mean that there are two request lists or is it just a different version of the same stream?

It's just 1 request stream, just with different port options for those that have difficulty connecting to the main request stream.

rdeacon if these ports are blocked would the stand alone player work on these systems? Could you run the player off of a disk?

Jacca,

No since the stand alone player would need to connect to the stream source via a port. The best port option would be port 80, which all web servers use for web pages. As businesses don't block that port. But its the one port I can't use.

rich,

it seems that the port 23 stream doesn't work either. i can use pandora and live365 at work, but those stream through port 80. i'm in touch with my IT administrator, but i have a funny feeling that he won't bend the rules and open a port for me. i may be doomed to no SR at work!

just out of curiosity, why can't SR broadcast through port 80?

and of course, thanks for trying to make this work! if anything changes, i'll keep you posted...thanks again...
