They need the perfect combination of Lunacy and Sanity.......Parks & Resorts Creative & R&D needs the craziness, while the rest of the operation needs to hold a very steady course.......I think the current administration will do VERY well.

I disagree. Under the Eisner era, we saw what happens when the suits have no vision and the creativity is "left up" to the Imagineers, who were too restrained, demoralized, scared, and possibly incompetent (due to actual creative-types being forced out) to be very creative at all.

The suits set the boundaries and if they aren't thinking outside the box, there's only so much even the greatest creative minds would be able to pull off. You need the grand ideas to get the ball rolling and set the tone. If the suits are playing it safe (and setting the example that the only way to make it in the company is to play it safe), the magic will be pretty hard to come by.

Dedicated employees can pull off minor victories here and there, but they can't decide to build something unique like Epcot and can't put a stop to bad ideas.

I do honestly believe he is going to continue to do great things within the company, I have faith... he's DEFINATELY the right man for Disney! :mickey3:

Or at least a Holiday Haunted Mansion overlay like in Disneyland, that would be awesome.

I don't think Iger would be the man to decide if Magic Kingdom will have a Holiday Haunted Mansion overlay, but that still would be great to see. :D

I don't see how Iger is doing such a great job. Yes he is doing better then Eisner, but if that's the bar, put one of my teenagers in charge!
Yes they are putting a lot of money back in the parks. I don't see throwing money as being a big accomplishment. It's to the point where Disney had to put money back into it. Lets face it the Disney board let Eisner get away with a scorched earth policy! Now Disney is paying for it.
I don't see them doing a great job with the money either. Has anybody been on SSE lately? It looks like all of the money is going to "FLUFF".
I agree there needs to be a creative mind in charge. Lets face it Iger got the job because of the great job he did with ABC. If that's his big accomplishment, how low can he get Disney as a whole to sink?

I missed thsi thread when it was first posted
I'm not impressed with Iger, but he doesn't appear to be the Antiwalt that Eisner was, so it's definitely an improvement.
Ditto. I'd say Iger is more of a Roy - he can do a great job mangaing the money, he knows a great thing when he sees it and he lets great things happen, however, he probably can't create a great idea by himself and doesn't really understand "theming".

John Lasseter is ideally the Walt counterpart to Iger, but although Lassester has all these incredible visions and has proven himself capable of running imagineering, he doesn't apply himself. All he's worried about is cramming PIXAR into the parks. If someone can convince Lassester to care about Disney, it would begin to fix about 75% of the problems I have with the parks.

Whether it's Lasseter or someone else, SOMEBODY needs to care about creativity. If only more people would see through Walt's eyes...

Wishful thinking...

Although Iger's done a good job keeping the company steady, it's important to me that the parks retain their "magic". I really haven't seen how he proposes to do that.

Yet, his commitment to building and retaining a strong cast member base is one of the things I like about him. It's so-so for me...

I know some long term CMs and they do see any real change with the way management treats them. For those of you that happen to be friends with a CM, ASK!
Some of what is being done, although right minded, is very ill conceived. You can't just throw money, you have to have a target.
