SR was shut down for an hour today...

Post by subsonic » Apr Tue 17, 2007 10:31 am

Today, for an hour, the site was shut down. The hosting company said Subsonic Radio is using too much of their resources.

It seems to be a big part was the regeneration module on the left side. For now I have turned this off.

Sorry for the inconvenience, it might be like this for a little while. Better that then no site at all. We're looking into getting new hosting. So far I have ran this site for close to free. It appears the site now needs more money to run/expand. We are all trying to work this out for as little money as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

Thats cool, personally I don't meed the regeneration the way it is. I preferred the older one, it took up less space, now I have to wait for this one to load before I can click on anything. Just adds another 2 seconds to my day.

Glad to know you're still here! I logged on earlier and was surprised to see the site was down. The regen thing was cool but definitely not that big a deal. Thanks for being here!

Just an FYI, yesterday when the site was down, I was able to Google your cached site and still pick up the feed.

The regen thing is not really necessary, IMHO. Cool, but I'd rather have the site without it than not have the site.

Anything you can do to keep the site up and running, is more than fine with me. It's the most visited site in my day!

Luckily the streams are independent of the current web host. This allowed the streams to remain functional.

Its a good sign of all good growing sites to have growing pains.

Sub - Is they any way we can make a cash donation to help keep the site up and running? I love this site and would be lost without it! :mickey:

It may come to that. I've never wanted to, but if that's what it takes to keep the site up...

I would be willing to donate as well. Just let us know what we can do to help keep SR alive and rockin'

Are you guys going to be able to reinstate the regeneration mode? or are you going to make a new counter that just shows points?

It's in hiatus. The goal is to get a dedicated server but this costs money. We're looking into leads right now. If everything pans out I won't need to spend the time recoding the regen into a smaller, less functional module.

Do you know that now that you have turned the regen mode off, when we request stuff we cant see what our remaining point total is, or am i the only one experiencing this problem?
Sometimes the bluest part of the sky seems so far away from us, I guess thats what keeps us striving for it...

I can't see mine either. I assumed it was part of the 'shut down' of the regen mode. I'm just judging my points by what's grayed out in requests now.

Yes, I know, it sucks but I haven't had the time to recode this. It's either broken functionallity or no site at all.

Sorry for the inconvience.
