SubsonicRadio Introduces a New Stream!!!

Post by subsonic » May Tue 23, 2006 1:18 pm

I am proud to announce that SubsonicRadio has opened a second 96k stream playing a different rotation than the original stream. Simply put, this second stream randomly plays tracks without requests. Now, there's an alternative for those that might not enjoy certain tracks being played on the main stream. You don't need to leave SubsonicRadio to listen to alternate content.

The links on the left navigation have changed to reflect this. Ones with "Requests" are the main stream with requests. The one with "Random" is the random one. Makes sense huh?

Also here is a direct link to the stream:

A many special thanks to Addlema for the bandwith and his new kid for making him so happy to be willing to donate the bandwidth.

Addendum:
I'm thinking of moving schedules to this requestless stream. More info here: viewtopic.php?p=25089#25089

Wow that's a great idea. The best part for me would be if I don't like a song on one of the streams I could switch over to the other stream. Nice!!!!

Thanks Addlema!

What a great Idea this other stream is! Was this influenced by a particular thread in the forums?

Great idea Sub, and kudos to Addlema for the generous donation. Just think what he would have donated if he had twins!!

That is terrific, thanks all! Say, any chance you can make a now playing page for that stream?

Idea about Schedules

I want peoples input about this. I was thinking how requests override the current schedules and am considering moving schedules over to the new - requestless stream. This would be very simple for me to do and would alleviate me from a lot of extra coding. (My idea was to have users only request from tracks included in that schedule.)

What are yours thoughts? If people like this idea I'll then make another thread asking for people's ideas on schedules. Please don't post ideas for schedules yet. I'm interested if people think this is a good idea.

Putting the Scheduled stuff on the second stream sounds great, but what do you mean request from those? You mean you will have a second request page specifically for that stream? Or is it more like if someone wants to hear the whole of something (like the retrospective)?

Honestly whatever makes it easier on you is fine with me and, I hope, everyone else. :jack:

On the main stream, there are schedules. But requests come before the schedules songs. Songs for the giving schedule will only queue up if nobody is requesting. My fix was to only list songs from a givin schedule for users to request. Users wouldn't be able to request songs from outside that schedule.

Now that there's a requestless stream read my above post about schedules. There would be NO requests on that stream.Does this make sense?

I think moving the scheduled stuff over to the requestless stream is a great idea. Whatever is the easiest on you though.

My vote is to move the schedule to the requestless stream as well. Not only is it the easiest code wise, but I think it is the best solution overall.

I like it! It'd be nice to have a bit of programming on the other stream plus the random picks...
