We were there for F&W in 2012... it was also when New Fantasyland was getting its preview / soft opening. The crowds were the worst I've experienced - all my other trips were made in October before F&W, in early June when many schools were still in session, or in January. I'm partial to a January or February time, myself, just because of the crowds, and it would be a lot easier if a large group of us got together when crowds are low.
