I'll probably put this in a news post. But for now, it's here.
Basically, you need semi decent upload. Something like Rich has at 384 up.
Well, that's for the 64k stream.
It works like this.
You take up a slot when you relay the stream.
Every listener uses 64k.
To host 5 listeners at 64k you need 384 up.
64k to connect to the server...
320k to hose 5 streams...
=
384k
You also want a little buffer so you can still view websites and such.
This will leave you with 4 listeners to leave you with 64k to surf.
When you connect to the server, you fill up a slot on that server.
So, essentially, you've only added 3 extra slots for people to listen to.
It takes a lot of bandwidth. But, if 10 people host 4 listeners each, subtracting 10 for the slots filled that's still added 30 listeners thus more than doubling my current total of 64k listeners.
As far as software. All you need is the shoutcast server and a config file. If people are interested, I can make zip file of these and all you have to do is unzip and run.
Thanks for the support my fellow mouse freaks.
