Incredible Pictures: Progressland at the 1964 World's Fair
I read Disney blogs quite a bit. Mostly to keep up-to-date on the goings on of parks. Others, to hear people complain about how Disney builds stuff "on the cheap" and is losing its attention to detail (because I feel this way too; though updates to DCA have been fantastic). And some, to reminisce nostalgic memories of the past. I've never been to the World's Fair but everything in these pictures reminds me of the Disney I grew up with.

I have thought that the days of Eizner on the cheap were gone. I think they should make John Lasseter president to me he is Disney reincarnated. He knows the detail is the essence of story telling. DCA Carlands is his doing. What were they thinking when they did the Little Mermaid ride in DCA that is a huge waste of space it you ask me in DCA.

I think mermaid is pretty good for a dark ride. And a super efficient load system. It could be better, but at least it's not all video walls and thrills.

How about using the very successful Soaring ride system and tooling with a Marvel Theme like Avengers or Iron Man Plus 3d That would be huge. I guess I was expecting more then plastic fish spinning on visible rods. Ursula is good. Maybe the lighting is wrong or something.

What great photos! I wish there was pavilion now that had an awesome, glowing roof like that, what great night photos. The article definitely tweaked the nostalgia; I loved going up the ramp at the end of CoP to see that City of the Future. It's funny to me that the author of the article neglects to mention Horizons at Epcot as I always felt it was just the next generation of the Carousel family.subsonic wrote:I read Disney blogs quite a bit. And yes, I'm right there with you, that's the Disney I grew up with, too.

Knowing what we know now, is there anyone out there still projecting what they think our future will look like in 50 years? I think technology back then impressed with it's scope and magnitude of what we could accomplish. Today, it's all about getting smaller and lighter and faster and thinner (while we all get fatter!)

what would you have, tv screens everywhere? i can get that at best buy. i go to disney for a multitude of reasons, one of which is to marvel at the maquettes and AA's, how they lay out a ride, how in Mermaid, the ride doubles back on itself in the under the sea vignette, and it is viewable 360 degrees(try that on Pirates!) in that scene there is no done with mirrors, no forced perspective, just full AA's and display creatures out in the open. Imagineering at its finest. i will not go into story structure(wizzard) because i doubt that anyone ages 5-40 does not know about Ariel...jgarmer wrote:How about using the very successful Soaring ride system and tooling with a Marvel Theme like Avengers or Iron Man Plus 3d That would be huge. Such a shame that the World's Fair area has been allowed to fall into such disrepair.
