Recent change to stream protocol?

Up until a couple of days ago, I was able to click on the Windows Media Player option for each stream and it would launch and play in Windows Media Player just fine. But now, I get an error message about the protocol being incorrect (below). Any chance there was a recent change?
I would listen in another internet radio player, but I'm on Windows 8.1 Preview and my usual players (RADYO and TuneIn) aren't yet supported.

ERROR MESSAGE
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:")."
PS I tried to get onto chat to mention this issue. But when I try to log in via the web interface, it just sits on "Connecting" for a while and then reverts back to the sign in screen.
