Stream wont load

Post by justjohn » Sep Wed 14, 2011 10:29 am

Hello all. When I click on the WMP button on any rate, I am getting the following message

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:").

Any clues as to what I need to do to fix this? The site has worked on this computer before and nothing has changed in settings.

Thank you

John

I found another thread regarding this problem. It recomends using the links on the left of the screen under stations. When I try these, it brings up a "save as" window and tries to sace stream.asx on WMP or listen.asx on winamp.

The WMP buttons should save as stream.asx. Once you click on the stream.asx file it should open and play, and give you the option to use WMP to open that file as its default application. You can also set that file to open via WMP by right clicking the file, chose properties, the clicking the opens with button.

Tried those steps. Saved the stream.asx, right clicked and associated WMP with it. When I click, it opens the window, plays the Subsonic intro, then stops. I guess its broke for me.

Whatever comes stock in Windows 7. It's worked before, just stopped all of a sudden. I installed winamp and it works there for now.

I have the same problem when I select the Windows Media Player from the menu on the left. It just plays the Subsonic Intro and then stops. However, I found that if I pick the stream from the options on the center of the main "Listen" screen it plays the Intro and then plays the stream normally. Some quirk with the default Windows 7 media player, since the menu on the left works in XP and Vista.
