"Now Playing" time off

Post by Fantastory » Sep Tue 29, 2009 11:06 am

I'm not sure anyone else is having this issue since it hasn't been mentioned yet, but I've found the "Now Playing" timer is consistantly ahead of whatever is actually playing by about 2 minutes. Subsequently it will say it's playing one thing when the audio is from a track that is already in the History. It makes it really hard to figure out what's actually playing, especially when the songs are all very similar and it's playing audio from two or three tracks ago. This has been going on for a couple weeks now - I thought it would get fixed in a few days but no luck.

I have always noticed a smaller difference between what is playing and the counter. I believe rdeacon offered up an explanation to this a while ago but I forget what it was and where he had explained it.

The time will never be exact since there is a buffer when the track plays. The time is accurate to the server only.

there are a number of factors that can cause that... 1 is how big your buffer is in your player. the bigger the buffer, the longer the delay between what the server lists and what you hear, because it has to fill the buffer when you first connect. another is gerneal internet lag.

The most common cause though, is server gnomes. They get in the server, and they start pulling wires out to make their nests. they really are quite the pest. However, they can be killed off with Raid.

Very creative! It doesn't explain why it's sometimes off by a whole song though, but I do like the way you can make something up on the spot. I have to do that sometimes when explaining a problem a system is having. You'd be amazed at what a customer will buy into!

That reminds of the one where a woman calls tech support to complain that her brand new computer she just bought isn't working, and the tech walks her through a series of steps, to no avail. Finally he tells her to check behind the desk and make sure that it's plugged in to the wall correctly.
"I can't tell. I can't see behind there," she says.
"Well can you turn on another light or something?" he asks.
"No," she says, "the lights aren't working. The electricity is out."
....... "Ma'am," says the tech, "do you still have the boxes and packaging that the equipment came in?"
"Yes," she says, "do I need to send it back? Is it defective?"
"Yes, ma'am, you need to send it back... NO it's probably not defective... you're just too stupid to own a computer."

I found the issue why the time is off on the now playing page. I have to find a solution...hmm The requests are working fine, so you can request away.

Problem on now playing page this morning, whatever is at the top of the list has a very long playing time about 70mins for whatever is playing.

If you refresh the page you get the correct tune that is playing at the time but again it gives it about 70mins playing time.

I refreshed into Tapestry of Nations which I know is approximately 30mins and it gave it a playing time of 79mins.
