Awesome quality audio recorder

Post by Yensidaj » Jun Wed 27, 2007 8:00 am

Hi everyone out there who records audio in the parks or anywhere for that matter. I work for a school district as a computer tech and I noticed our music teacher walking around with a rather odd looking mp3 player, so I stopped him and asked him what it was. He proceeded to tell me that it was a stereo mp3 recorder and play back device. it is called the Edirol R-09 and it is made by Roland. The quality of the recordings were absolutly amazing. He had me listen to one he made of a student playing acustic guitar in the lunch room (not the best area to record music) and it sounded like he recorded it in a studio. While expensive (around $400) I thought that this recorder would be great for recording STEREO recordings of some of the attractions, shows, and parades at the parks.
What do you all think and what do others use? I am curious.

I don't know anybody who has actually recorded stuff though.

To anyone interested, it appears that (from reputable sellers, at least) the price of that recorder gets down to around $350:

I'd like to record something one time by putting the mics on either side of my head just to see how real it would sound. But I don't see myself getting over the embarrassment of it.

Get one of those beer helmets, put the mics in those beer holders. You'd look MUCH less dorky.

Or, do it around Christmastime and dress up like a reindeer, mics hidden in the antlers...

Well, you could go a much more sane route and get the Goofy hat and attach the mics to the ears. :)

Lou Mongello with the WDW Memories podcast uses one too for many of his shows. he recorded a bunch of attractions/shows and put them into a podcast format. very good...

Of course the one I would love to get is the Zoom H4.

My brother wants the H2 for recording with his video camera, which I might get if I can't afford the H4.

I have a potential work trip coming up to Orlando and I am planning on staying at least an extra day to hit EPCOT (yeah, thats right, EPCOT in all caps...I'm old school) and my plan is to come away with the data I need for work, and a recording of the newly renovated Spaceship Earth. I still am not sure which recording device will be the best. I don't know what to look for, even after looking at the above posts. Any thoughts? I appreciate it.

I would say just go with the Samson H2. You get good quality and the ability to get 360 degree recording witch can be converted to 5.1 surround later. Another advantage is it will fit in your pocket and is only 4 oz. so you shouldn't be annoyed carrying it around. If time is a concern, like if you are going to WDW in two weeks or something you might want to consider the H2 as well because it looks like it is less difficult to operate. So I would say go with the Zoom H2.
