Tall Ships in Chicago

Post by boilerbabe » Aug Sat 10, 2013 11:26 pm

Hi all, I had promised to post some pics from the Tall Ships we saw this past Thurs. in Chicago! It was a gorgeous evening!!! I would highly recommend the fest. to anyone that is able to attend or ever thought about it! We did the "sail away" tour aboard the Appledore IV, the crew was great and city does a fab job on fireworks (not quite Disney, of course, but very good!) I went with my parents, bdude took a pass as he gets sea sick very easy! This was something that has been on my mom's "wish list" for a very long time! She refuses to call it her "bucket list", especially since her recent diagnosis.

This is Chicago's Tall Ship, it's a permanent resident at Navy Pier, the "Windy":

The clouds were stunning!

I love Chicago! Navy Pier + Fireworks = great combination!

Did anyone ever tell B-dude that rum - lots of it - was a cure for seasickness? ;-)

Great pics, Boilerbabe! :-)

Wow ~ very pretty b-babe! My Mom and her friend toured the Tall Ships several years ago up in Michigan. I didn't realize they have a permanent presence in Chicago now. Neat!

Well, it would have been the only way you could get him on the boat, but at least it would provided some pictures of him he would never forget. :wink: :lol:

Love them! Thanks Boilerbabe!

LOL! That cracked me up! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Nothing goes to waste, eh?

Anyway, back to the topic on hand. How long have they had the tall-mast ship there at the Navy Pier? It's been a few years since I've been in Chicago, but it wasn't there years ago when I visited.

@Mindflipper

Windy has been making the rounds since '96. I am not sure of the exact time when it was made into a permanent attraction at Navy Pier. In 2006 Mayor Daley officially named it the Flagship of Chicago. To that I say "Strike the colours". (Notice the u in color) :)
