If you have any tweens or just enjoy young adult fiction I recently discovered Rebecca Stead. She normally writes in the first person as a 12-13 year old kid and the stories are funny, endearing and light mysteries. Try "When You Reach Me" and then "Goodbye Stranger" for a couple especially good reads.

Last summer I read through the four Mortal Engines books by Philip Reeve. The movie is terrible, but I heard good things about the books. The first book is good, the second, meh, but the third and fourth are really good and the series ends very nicely. If you like steampunky, sci-fi/fantasy that's geared toward a YA audience (but easily enjoyable by adults as well) then check it out. Again, don't see the movie though.

I'm now reading a sort of prequel series Fever Crumb.
