The Disneyland Rip-off That Never Was...

Post by mindflipper » Dec Wed 14, 2011 8:20 pm

Not everyone can pull off a Disneyland, as you can see by this article on YAHOO about the ill-fated "Wonderland" in China:

I wonder if its demise had anything to do with China getting Hong Kong Disneyland?

If you Google the park plenty will come up.

I remember hearing about this when they first started building it.
You can tell, even in it's dilapidated state, that had it gone on to open it would still look ultra-cheesy!

Reminds me of Nara Dreamland, in Nara, Japan.

Wow ~ that place is really messed up. I wonder if it has improved any since that report was from 2004. I would seriously wonder about the safety of even riding any of those rides if the park looks like that!

Glad to hear it. Looks like it would have been dangerous :(

I was listening to a recent Inside the Magic podcast when they mentioned Bible Story Land. It was a park due to be built in the 1960's in Southern California and rival Disneyland. It even had a few former Imagineers who were involved with the building of Disneyland, but it never happened. There is a docu-movie and even a website about it (although the website seems over-the-top cheesy): http://www.biblestorylandmovie.com

sounds like The Holyland Experience in Orlando, (across from Universal) which to my understanding, is still going strong!

Oh, yes, that.... my holy roller cousins visited Orlando and were not allowed to come to WDW due to the fact my Christian zealot aunt thinks Disney is full of sinful messages. So they visited the Holyland Experience instead. I'd be bored to death...
