Do you know how to use DOS?
I'm just curious. How many can use DOS functions to fix Windows XP?

Hmmm, I would have to think waaaaaaay back. I would have to say I probably wouldn't remember enough to fix anything anymore

You mean comand prompt? (it's not considered dos anymore)
I take it you couldn't just fix whatever was wrong with a reg editor?

One place I did some work for had really bad systems in place to semi-automate various processes. It got so bad that I eventually started making batch files just to get the stuff done in a decent timeline.

Batch files will save so much time!! I keep a few on the disk, because Windows is such a stable environment!! If I could I'd still be running Windows 98!!

I'm running XP. I don't have the RAM capacity to run Windows 7. My board is limited to 2 gig, at the time (8 years ago) that was a lot.

You can just upgrade the board and processor... it would be like a whole new computer then!Jacca5660 wrote:I'm running XP. I don't have the RAM capacity to run Windows 7. My board is limited to 2 gig, at the time (8 years ago) that was a lot.
In all honesty, XP is still my favorite Windows OS. It was overall consistent and reliable. Let's not talk about Vista, the bare OS eats away at 1.5 gigs of RAM. It also is blowing my HDD every 6 months...

Dump Vista and go either back to XP or move foward to Windows 7 - or you can wait for Windows 8 (which slightly resembles the Windows smartphone)...Len90 wrote:You can just upgrade the board and processor... it would be like a whole new computer then!Jacca5660 wrote:I'm running XP. Re: Do you know how to use DOS?
You might be hard pressed to go back since they stopped making discs/keys for it (if you're into legal stuff) and support has either ended or is nearing it. Funny thing, they made a counter to count down to the end of support and it doesn't work on xp.

Re: Do you know how to use DOS?
I admit that I heard sooooooo much bad things about VISTA that I avoided buying a new desktop or laptop until after Windows 7 came out. I just did want to deal with having VISTA installed and then replace it later with Windows 7. Easier just to wait and buy it without VISTA. I gotta admit, Windows 8 doesn't look too bad at this time...

Re: Do you know how to use DOS?
Vista wasn't actually that bad, I think a lot of the hatred for it (by reviewers) was because of the large jump in style since it was the start of the "20 foot experience".
