Lets go Black Hawks!!! They hoisted the Stanley Cup banner last night, but they don't look too hot so far! I doubt this year will be a repeat for them, they broke up so much of the team.

Might be another 49 years, but lets hope not!

I second that. It was great to see the offense come out hot after such a dismal 2009-2010 season. Let's just hope that Derek Stepan is that good all season long!

I love the Whale! May I be so nosy as to ask what your cousin's name is? I still have a hat and a couple t shirts.

kcarts - Is there any chance of them returning to the NHL? I know they are still popular. I see Whalers shirts/Jerseys all of the time.

Not likely. I know there was a huge push to save them when they left. Season tickets went through the roof their final season. But the issue is more of the arena. The Civic Center is a dump. It's in a mall for Pete's sake! The owner wanted a new arena and a guarantee that the luxury boxes would sell out. There really isn't much in the way of corporate support in Hartford so there was no way that they were going to get the boxes sold and therefore no way to get a new arena built.
There is still the love for the Whale. But I don't see an NHL franchise returning to Hartford.

Sure, his name is Mike Tomlak, he was #28, played two seaons and then shattered his leg. Short lived, but it was pretty cool to see your cousin play when he came to Chicago! He would always get us tix.

WOW! That's pretty awesome B-Babe!!!
I like to watch hockey, but only live (and for the fights) ....it's so hard to really get into it on tv. The first NHL game that both hubby and I went to was a Ducks game (surprise, surprise) a few years ago. It turned out to be the year they won the Stanley Cup! Woo hoo!!!
(but we have local love for our minor league team, the Wranglers....)

That certainly is cool! I remember him. In fact (I'm going to date myself here, but what the heck..) in high school I went to get a Whalers jersey and was down to getting either a Todd Krygier jersey or Mike Tomlak. I went with Krygier. Local guy.
