Ok, here is my 2011 essay. I went partly with prose. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Trying to finish it up, get it proofread and printed out and in the mail no later than Tuesday....nothing like waiting until the last possible moment!
Thanks in advance
‘Twas the night before move-in, and I was delighted,
After all the dust settled, I felt I’d been knighted.
A season spent waiting, but now the moment was here.
I arrived at the museum, the second musketeer.
For Kate had been first, and did quite a great job,
But my turn was now, and I’d soon be facing a mob.
No worries had I, they’d surely be delightful,
While secretly I’m hoping Halloween will be truly be frightful.
The opening visitors were great, and I welcomed them all,
I took pictures myself, for the new visitors’ wall.
I took a moment to glance at my transparent new home,
Then I rolled up my sleeves and headed off for the dome.
My first step of business was turning on lights,
Because I also look forward to exploring at night.
I suppose I’d be sad if I bumped my shins,
Peeking behind the scenes however would soon make me all grins.
So pick me for the Month and I promise I’ll write,
Any style that is called for, and I’ll post it each night.
I dream of finding lost exhibits and opening a closed door,
Pick me as your roommate, I’ll report what I find as I explore!
I want to immerse myself in the exhibits and atmosphere for a month. I think I could make the guests’ visit more interactive by including them in my explorations. Perhaps one day I could take a family to watch Tornado alley, or another day we could hold a scavenger hunt.
Having been a substitute teacher as well as a piano teacher, I am comfortable in any educational situation. Keeping anyone’s interests requires one to adapt and change directions quickly if needed. I have many ideas that I think would be a great addition to the Month at the Museum program. For example, I would love to take photographs of museum visitors as they come to visit. There could be a photo wall made with the photos. Another idea I have relates to the fact that I find inspiration wherever I look. So, in that vein, I would love to have a hidden picture of the day. I could take a close-up photo each evening, post it both online and in the MATM clear cube the next day and have people guess which exhibit or part of the museum it came from. There could even be small prizes drawn each day from the correct guesses and then a grand prize at the end of the month.
A month in the museum would give me the chance to explore and satisfy my natural curiosity. In turn I could then take that new knowledge and share it with others. I am completely comfortable with technology and gadgets, and I aways want to learn more about the world around me.
Thank you for having another Month at the Museum program, and for considering me again for this amazing opportunity!
