Ian Somerhalder will be back as Boone, presumably in flashback as he is now a regular on the Vampire Diaries. Also, Harold Parineau will be back as Michael as well, but no way to do if he's a flashback or not. Claire is another set to return, but no details there either.

I've seen a bunch of official (spotted at DHS) poster(s) with characters who have died (Charlie, Mr. Ecko, Boone, Shannon, Ana Lucia, Libby, etc.) with big bold letters: THE FINAL SEASON. I've spotted one that had Nikki(spelling?) and Paolo... Remember them? I'll see if I can find one with a good resolution to post and see who we can spot.

It is not totally clear which characters are returning this season. Even Juliet is a question mark as she's on ABC's V, and Penny Widmore is now a regular on ABC's Flash Forward.

So who watched the two hour premiere tonight? The show has had flashbacks and flashforwards, so what did we get tonight? Flash-sideways? Was that a parallel dimension showing "what if?" circumstances if the plane had never crashed? What's your theory?

I see a "what if" story line going, but which one is the real one? Who the heck are those other Others? How does the guy (or girl for that matter. We've seen "it" take the place of Alex, and Jack's dad, Christian... I think.) "who took over" Locke know Richard?
More questions to pile on to the ones they still have to answer.

Last season finale opener - Jacob in white and his adversary dressed in black, while sitting on the beach near Statue Foot, watch the Black Rock sailing on the horizon. They discuss how they were going to force the Black Rock off course to the island. They knew somehow about its crew and captain from the way they were talking. I presume they appeared to them off the island before marooning the ship the same way they appeared to Jack, Kate and the rest long before the plane crash-landed on the island.
I do agree with about which story-line is the "real" storyline. Is something going to happen to turn island story-line into story-line where the plane never crashed and the island is at the bottom of the ocean??

Anyone else notice that Charlie didn't have the same hairstyle as he did when the plane crashed?

Not only Charlie, what about Jack? Remember the buzzcut he had in season 1?
Other differences with the parallel universe:
Shannon did not board the plane. She stayed in Australia.
Boone didn't sit in first class; instead he was in coach on the same row as Locke.
Hugo Reyes said he was the "luckiest person in the world" but in the previous seasons he said he was unlucky and cursed.
Desmond was on the plane (he was not one of the original survivors as he was on the island when the plane crashed), sat down next to Jack but after Jack saved Charlie Desmond vanished.

Ah, but how true is that? Locke also said he did go on his walkabout. We saw how true that really was later in the episode...

However, Shannon did stay behind in Australia. Boone was flying economy instead of first class. Jack had a totally different hairstyle. The island is submerged under the ocean. Desmond was on the plane - and then not. These are real differences. Will something happen by the end of the series to turn the island storyline into the alternate reality storyline. And given Desmond's past with being unstuck in time - will he be connected to whatever happens?

So I am thinking that what we are going to see during this last season is a side by side storyline.
One side is on the island as it goes along we will watch the events as they unfold leading to the changes that are on the other side of the story. (hmmm...maybe a parallel universe type thing)
And on the other side is the events as they played out because of the the changes that the people on the island made.
OR..maybe one doesn't effect the other and it's just two different realities.
Ok I hope I made some sense because I still have trouble figuring this show out.
My two cents.

I too believe they're going to have the two parallel story-lines throughout the season. My theory: the island story-line will end somehow turning into the parallel universe story-line as we saw it began last Tuesday. I agree that something will happen on the island to cause this happen, and I believe Desmond is somehow connected (which would explain why he appeared and disappeared from the plane).
