I can't say "Avatar" is to blame - there is always an element of society that has a problem separating fantasy from reality. Like many WDW nuts who go to WDW - the vacation and time spent is such a great fantasy you can suffer a withdrawal/depression when going back to the reality of home and work. Hopefully, there's no WDW nut out there that has had suicidial thoughts - most of us just start planning our next trip! :mickey:

Not only that, but people are killing themselves because Pandora isn't real.

It seems people are troubled and confused. It like some are looking for anything to believe in. For those of you that know me here, well you know where I think they can find it.

PS IT"S JUST A MOVIE!!

Maybe they had suicidial thoughts because they thought the film would never end. It's almost 3 hours!

I finally saw the film, and like most of the world was very impressed with the computer generated effects. It's a shame the story was not equally impressive. I was disappointed by how many films were ripped off by the script of this film:

Pocahontas - John Smith (Jake Sully),lost in the woods, is found and befriended by a native female named Pocahontas (Neytiri), who is daughter of the tribal chieftian Powhatan (Eytukan) and promised as betrothed to Kocoum (Tsu'tey). Poocahontas (Neytiri) shows John Smith (Jake Sully) how her people and forest are inter-connected. Pocahontas did it faster than Avatar by using the song "Colors of the Wind".

Dances With Wolves - War-torn Union officer Lt. Dunbar (disabled marine Jake Sully) travels out West (to the planet Pandora) to start over, where in the course of events he learns the native ways of the Lakota (Na'vi) from a member of the tribe, Stands with Fists (Neytiri). By the end of the film, Dunbar (Sully) switches sides, and the Army (Marines & Corp.) attack the Lakota (Na'vi).

Dune - Paul Atreides (Jake Sully), lost in the dessert (woods) is rescued by the Fremen (Na'vi), the oppressed natives of the planet Arakis (Pandora). Paul is shown the way of the Fremen (Na'vi) by Chani (Neytiri), the daughter of the Fremen (Na'vi) leader, Stilgar (Eytukan). After taking the Waters of Life and summoning the sandworm to ride it (being initiated as a member of the Omaticaya and taming the Toruk), Paul (Jake Sully) emerges as the Fremen (Na'vi) Leader Mau'dib (Toruk Makto), who leads the combined Fremen (Na'vi) forces against their planetary oppressors, Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV and the Harkonnen family (Parker Selfridge and the RDA Corporation with its mercenary military force of ex-marines). And why is Arakis (Pandora) under the control of the Padishah Emperor and the Harkonnens (Sefridge, RDA, and the ex-marines)? All for an extremely rare spice called melange (a very rare metal called Unobtanium), which can only be found in one place in the universe - the planet Arakis (Pandora).

Heck, even the marine military hardware seemed ripped of from another Cameron film - Aliens. I think the film would have better if the story/script just didn't seem like a tired re-tread of other films from the past. I probably overlooked some other films that got ripped off by the retread - if you can think of some, please list them.

I thought a lot of characters were killed off way too soon in the finale battle.
We are all a little weird
And life's a little weird,
And when we find someone whose
Weirdness is compatible with ours,
We join up with them and fall in
Mutual weirdness and call it Love.”

Typical final confrontation scenario in movies: the hero & heroine must face the chief antagonist/villian alone without their support system. If they're not incapicitated or isolated, they're killed.

I can understand 1 or 2 background characters, but 4 to 6 of them? That's overkill (no pun intended.)!

The more deaths, the more tragic situation our underdog heroes face going into the final conflict. Believe it or not, Hollywood has really reduced storylines down to formulaic process.

Your telling that to someone someone who worked at a movie theater and Blockbuster. Trust me, I know. Like I said, I can understand 1 or 2 deaths before the good guys start winning, but I thought losing that many good guys who had names and were in the credits was a little too much.

MadEye, I'm not disagreeing or justifying it. It's a James Cameron thing. Look at Aliens, everyone died except Ripley, the girl and the marine. In Terminator, everyone died except for Sarah Connor. In Titanic, everyone left aboard died except for Rose. Do you see a recuring theme here? Is James Cameron a bit repetitive or what?

How about almost every cowboy and Indian movie, with the exception of the Indianans winning. It also seem to have a kinda Lion King thing going on.

To follow up an earlier post, she did have a scene in her underwear!!

PS The last original stories were written by The Bard!

Not only an underwear scene, but the near naked scene at the glowing tree where they try to move her soul into her avatar.
