New Moon Movie - Your Thoughts?

Just saw the New Moon movie tonight with a friend of mine (she's read the books). Over all, it was better than the first movie (first film felt like endless moody vampire staring). Of course, it's not like Academy Aware worthy, but lately what gets nominated I can't say that's a bad thing. Let's just say not acting awards will be handed out for this film. For me, the most entertaining part was the "audience participation". When Jacob takes off shirt at one point the teenage girls in the audience loudly swooned and giggled. It busted me up with laughter I had tears coming out of my eyes! I know the movie wasn't a comedy, but thanks the teenagers seeing the movie - I have laughed so much in a movie in a long time!

Have you seen the movie? Liked it? Hated it? What's your review?? :?:

We'll have to move this to the off topic section since it's not Disney related.

Dang! You're right! I thought I had clicked on "Off Topic", not "Anything Else".

How do you move a topic???

I'm sure everyone on my FB is sick of hearing my venting about it but I was dragged to see it and I tried to watch but I wound up with a headache after. I just..I couldn't take it. It almost put me to sleep too a few times. To each their own, really.

Thanks, Len90! Owe ya, bud!

I agreed to go because a friend of mine wanted to go - so like you, elizabethswann, it was a film I would have gone to see on my own. The moody, brooding teenage vampire stuff is not for me, but this film had less of that than the first film. All they did in the first film was have that freaky stare all the time.

Thing I really didn't like was the introduction of the Voltieri (don't know if the spelling is right) - a secret, sinister underground ruling patriarchs of vampires hiding in Europe. What vampire film hasn't had this cliche in it over the past years? We had it in the Evolution films, in the Interview with a Vampire, and more. That whole sequence in the film seemed out of place and ill-fitting with the rest of the movie. Was it that way in the book? I don't know, I never read one of the books in this series.

I'm not against all vampire films. In college years back at UF, a local channel used to run repeats of DARK SHADOWS at 11 PM every night, which was popular with the campus crowd. Now, I read recently that Johnny Depp has secured the movie rights, and it could be a film for summer 2011 with Tim Burton as a director. With Depp and Burton, I might go see it...

What gets the "Ew"? New Moon? Or vampire films in general?

As a 31-year-old man, Twilight isn't exactly my thing, but I did find Chester A. Bum's review of the film highly amusing:

The movie is more of a ridiculous comedy, to be honest. It tries too hard to be a serious romantic movie and that's why I wound up laughing a bit harder than I thought I would. :P

We probably are, bro. Couple old farts like us will probably always get the young-uns confused.

As for the movie, I haven't seen it and never will. I don't have to see it to already know that it is not worth seeing. I think this whole vampire/teen-lust movie thing is one of the worst things Hollywood has ever come up with to inflict on impressionable teenage girls.

How about some worthy role models for a change? I mean, come on! A half-dead, blood-sucking, moody bad boy is what a teenage girl should aspire to have for a boyfriend?! Oh, yeah... THAT'S gonna be a happy marriage some day! Sheesh.....
