I liked Dark Shadows...... The only thing, they took it off the air before they showed the ending, did Barnabus get the stake? Or is he still alive? (btw, I saw this in reruns many moons ago)

Cool, Johnny Deep as Barnabas, could be a good thing. He was creepy as Willy Wonka.....

Did anyone see it who read (and liked) the books? I thought the first film was okay for what it is.

I haven't seen New Moon yet, because I want to avoid the teenage crowds as much as possible (and I don't have a babysitter ;) ).

You have a babysitter. Make that woman standing next to you watch the baby!! Show her who's boss!

You may want to buy a really comfy couch first!

Hahaha. Good times. And don't worry, I don't mind. It's not a womanly name. And most girls don't like football like I do. So, you're off the hook. ;)

The show ended off with a happy ending for the Collins family and Barnabas did not get staked.

Dark Shadows? Is this a decent enough book for me to check out? I have so many books to read and I keep slacking on it..

Dark Shadows was a soap in the sixties. Great show, really campy. There is a pilot for a new series that WB has been sitting on since 2004. I hope the movie is a little tongue-in-cheek, and being Tim Burton, it very well could be. I don't know if I like the idea of Depp playing Barnabas though, I could see someone like Sir Anthony Hopkins doing a good Barnabas.

I named my parent's dog Barnabas Collins.

As for the topic at hand, I can't say what I thought of New Moon on here, but I will say it is crap. I have seen better acting and dialogue on daytime TV.

To quote Dennis Miller "I don't want to go off on a rant here....." (and, Jacca, I'm going to borrow the soap box) but I saw a segment on the news last week about this movie and middle aged women were going gaga over the two young men in the movie. One of which is seventeen. 17! Now, let's flip the scenario...... if there were a movie with two young ladies in it and one was seventeen and middle aged men were on TV telling the reporter how hot she was, there would be some questions about those men and how disgusting and perverted they are. Apparently it's OK for women to do this.....but I digress.....

I can't say Hopkins would be good in the role - he's far too old! I agree the original was campy - hey, it did it's best for being a 1960's day-time soap! I don't think they could do better today with the same budget. One thing that impressed me about the original: none of the soundtrack was borrowed out of a studio library - Robert Cobert composed all of the music for the original series specifically for the show. Given the hours and hours of cues recorded, Dark Shadows probably has more hours of original soundtrack music than most other TV series to date.

As for the movie - I could see Tim Burton doing it - he loves that era as source material. I can see Depp playing Barnabas - he's done Captain Jack, Sweeney Todd, and Willy Wonka - I think he's diverse enough to do Barnabas Collins.

BTW NBC did a revival series some years back starring Ben Cross, Joanna Going, and Adrian Paul. It only lasted for one year.

Now back to the rants (and raves, if any?) for New Moon...
